Looks good news to me, prices dropping as battery prices fall and they are 3x production
"Ford also said it has temporarily closed its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan to complete final plant upgrades as it aims to triple the facility's annual run rate to 150,000 Lightning trucks, beginning this fall.
Battery raw material prices have been one of the factors that pushed up EV prices. But prices of cobalt and lithium, crucial for EV batteries, have declined."

Very good article, I liked the section with the Thatcham chap.
Leggett stresses: “Effective driver monitoring has the potential to address a huge number of crashes and fatalities caused by fatigued and distracted driving, while also having an important role in preventing over-reliance on current assisted driving systems.”
Indeed, such is the importance of DMS to the Mach-E that it is intended to work even if the owner doesn’t take out Ford’s monthly subscription for BlueCruise.
"Collaboration with Magna' section is worth a re watch also
Direct quote from the London Townhall, whilst explaining "after manufacture"
"Interestingly the tenders are very large, and often we are the only company bidding"
If you choose aftermarket from the dropdown and listen for a few mins he explains after manufacture
https://stream.brrmedia.co.uk/broadcast/633fd89248e27c7b9f69b898?utm_medium=email&_hsmi=229371750&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-8FtRCQnPjbnokHcCJypL6tEwyxCKAhEhRTgGBjfhPoJ2sgZfbW5uzGJL26wfvmvTLNfnN3lk5BSWKhUWrDxtvYgToJ0valpCqZx9PBw8HMj8_hjg8&utm_content=229371750&utm_source=hs_email
Also if you choose the Q&A the first question from the handsome Irish gentleman covers after manufacture.
Exactly right lost, that's the 'after manufacture' product, which is gen3.
At the London Townhall Paul confirmed
- hardware sold and fitted in the OEM factory before the vehicle leaves, so they can sell as compliant.
- monitoring is an upsell to the operator who buys the trucks or buses from the OEM
- high volume RFQ 50-100k units
I watched the whole NYC event this morning. Still can't believe we didn't see buying off the back of that event
Right at the end in the Q&A Paul is asking JT & Tim about regulation in US regarding drink driving
Tim talks about using DMS, as it's a system already in a car rather than a new system such as breath or touch related
JT explains "we are helping Congress write the law"
Feels like that's the next big breakthrough for DMS
Soul, I agree.
However, saving life's is what is been mandated by GSR and rewarded by NCAP
Seatbelts and airbags ain't sexy either but they are in all vehicles
The assumption that Magna's #occupant #monitoring #mirror was the basis for Seeing Machines' #Guardian Gen3 proved to be incorrect. Gen3 is a dash-mounted #telematics box, not a mirror, and the crossover between #automotive and #fleet is in the feature set, not form factor. But the constituent parties were Magna International, Mobileye, and Seeing Machines. So, let's look at another outcome if the assumptions were correct, and just the conclusion was wrong.
Returning to my February 11 post, we have seen a #partnership formed between Mobileye and Seeing Machines. In the automotive #OEM market, the link between these companies is Magna, which has 15+ years’ relationship with Mobileye for #ADAS forward camera. Magna has expertise in thermal management and power efficiency working with complex #electronics and #machinevision #algorithms in the headliner and mirror.
Data compiled by #Semicast for its ADAS & DMS report shows the largest vehicle operational mode is driver assistance. Headline grabbing announcements at #CES may be for hands-off, eyes-off, unsupervised driving, yet the greatest commercial success for a tier one rests in providing solutions for driver assistance. The action is always in the much less glamorous areas than the headlines suggest.
Now, if the critical growth area for DMS is the mirror, then we might be able to triangulate onto Magna's #strategy of very high-volume #NCAP #GSR compliance providing #AEB and lane-keeping #LKAS with #DMS #OMS all inside the mirror. Integrating both driver assistance and DMS/OMS within the power budget for the mirror would be an incredible technical achievement. The data suggest Magna has done exactly that.
We know some of the details from a patent, so let's spec the mirror: For ADAS, Mobileye EyeQ6Lite using OMNIVISION 8MP image sensor for forward camera. For DMS/OMS, Texas Instruments #Jacinto #processor with OmniVision 5MP RGBIR image sensor and OSRAM 940nm #IRLEDs.
The working assumption is that the first #automaker to go into production with the Magna mirror will be Volkswagen Group, sometime in early 2024, with programs both in Europe and China. In a CES 2022 interview with VW (https://lnkd.in/e6vV7nHg) Mobileye's CEO Amnon Shashua says: "Driving assist has a lot to go, there is lots of evolution for driving assist that will give lots of value to customers." Right on.
The secret to success in automotive is economies of scale. By combining the leading technology suppliers of ADAS vision with #interiorsensing, Magna looks to have hit on a formula it will be difficult for others to match. And that is before it has integrated the driver monitoring and driver assistance competency from Veoneer’s active safety business. A lot of life saving #innovation is coming, and none of it is #vaporware.
Colin getting very excited about the Magna mirror, delays in design win awards would seem to play into their hands imo.

Mr Safestocks gets invited to the vest events.

Ford is rightly proud of the vehicle and its safety record. Indeed, the company boasts that during the 2 years BlueCruise has been available in the US its 200,000 users have covered 100m miles without incident.
What Ford isn’t shouting about is that it is Seeing Machines DMS that is the reason there haven’t been any incidents, as it ensures the driver’s eyes are on the road before, during and after BlueCruise is engaged
This bit is better
"Electric Mustang owners have already driven more than 100m miles with BlueCruise in control on US and Canadian roads, where there are more than 200,000 active users. Ford also reports that in that time there have been zero “incidents reported”.
I have a different view, good business by the board to keep a top drawer CEO incentivised.
He deserves it for the Magna deal alone, still don't know how he got that over the line.
Collins will also be proven to be great business.
All shares will vest on a takeover, I like that he is incentivised for that outcome.
That was announced Monday
Aftermarket product and America he seems really excited about

OK, let's assume Cipia can "do rearview mirrror"
So what Tier One do they do it with?
1) Magna- no, exclusive with SM
2) Gentex, no, they have an inhouse solution
So they can do it in theory, but can't in reality

Improving pilot workload and well-being is one of the primary drivers of avionics design at Collins Aerospace. Our recent partnership with Seeing Machines is just one more way we can support pilots. It was great to catch up with Patrick Nolan today at the #ParisAirShow and discuss this shared mission.
