I was just thinking, how clever the interim government and BNP are being at unfolding all of this ….

- Energy policy gets announced saying own coal and new coal plants which has to be the Phulbari project …

- ⁠last week I read something about the BNP saying that they were going to do the Teesta river project ….

- ⁠Today we see the green light for a 1000 bedroom hospital, that’s going to service 17 million people of the north…

- ⁠again last week there was a report saying that 47% of solar power system that have been installed on households are not working due to maintenance etc…

The expansion and development of the north is going to be massive under the BNP….

So when you then get someone like the CPD say they want to reduce fossil fuel and have expansion of wind / solar etc the BNP then just turn around and say, well you can’t have it all ways, renewables are not going to cope right now with all this expansion of the north so development can’t happen without Phulbari coal and the electricity it will supply …

The perfect way to get the public on side of the Phulbari project should there be any negativity ….

Nice to see the Chinese going ahead with this project in the north of the country, I’m guessing the electricity requirement for this will be huge!!!

If there was any question mark about who will win the election previously, this must now almost take any doubt away and give it to the BNP!

Looks like we are going to finish the day where we started, as PEEL take the ask back up to 7p with all other MM's at 8p

Hopefully some more positive news over the weekend, and with the election campaign starting on the 22nd, we hopefully will start to get the manifestos and energy policy's being discussed ...

Eventually it’s obvious that both Bara and Phulbari will be mined, but it will be Phulbari that is mined first … Bara still needs more feasibility studies to be completed before open pit mining there is possible and that is x years away!

Even if Bara was ready to go, (which it’s not), it would not be financially viable to only OPM Bara with out Phulbari as well….

Its a positive read, although since this was written on the 4th Jan, we have had it confirmed from both the Interim Government and the BNP that the future government should use / extract the countries own coal resources, this article does mention Phulbari along with a time scale for first coal ........

Coal is undoubtedly a controversial energy source. Bangladesh has added around 7,000 MW of power generation capacity, all of which relies on imported coal. This is despite the fact that the country possesses substantial reserves of high-quality coal. Therefore, upon assuming office, the elected government must make a political decision to begin domestic coal extraction. If this is done, the existing proposal for developing the Phulbari coal mine could be evaluated by neutral experts and implemented, enabling coal supply from the mine within three years. Decisions regarding other coal fields should then be taken in phases.

However, securing investment for coal exploration and development remains a major challenge at present. As a result, the government must initiate partnership arrangements with companies. Experts believe that if coal-based power plants can be operated using domestically extracted coal, power generation costs could be reduced by 30–40 percent.

It’s quite incredible how much info we already have about the various political parties manifestos and energy policies considering campaigning should not really begin until the end of the month, and that the BNP openly stated at the weekend that they plan to use and extract the country’s own coal.

I know views vary on this, but I believe that now the interim government have come out and given more detail about the new Energy Policy and that they are recommending to the new government, and openly stated that the country’s own coal should be used / extracted, this now gives the green light for all parties to say the same in more detail when they campaign after the 21st, without fear of a backlash, and will say that they totally agree with the Interims government recommendation and will follow what they have said regarding all forms of energy, ie renewables, gas, oil, and coal….

Obviously if they go in to more detail and mention Phulbari before the elections it would be fantastic, but as I say, at the very least, I do expect coal to be mentioned in even more detail than they already have, in fact, you never know, because of how much it will save the country, and because of how much more environmentally friendly it will be than transporting coal in the way they do at the moment, and that the new coal plants will be the most efficient in the country, it could become a battle as to who promotes it more …

And then yesterday we had the Interim Government confirm that in the new Energy Roadmap, they have also stated that they recommend the new incoming government to use countries own coal reserves ……

“There are two dimensions—power and energy. A comprehensive approach has been taken. This includes offshore drilling initiatives and the utilization of coal including domestic coal resources. All these have been consolidated into a single framework,” he said.

As we all know, Phulbari is the only mine in the country ready to go, with all feasibility studies etc already completed, and that we have the backing of PowerChina, who have only recently renewed their Mou / EPC contract… looking back over the recent RNS’s will give you an insight as to how important PC are to the GCM project …

Elections will be held on Feb 12, CA reaffirms US diplomats

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to hold the general elections and the referendum as scheduled on February 12.

The Chief Adviser made the remarks when two former senior United States diplomats—Albert Gombis and Morse Tan, both of whom served during the Donald Trump administration—called on him at the State Guest House Jamuna here last night, said the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing today.

Professor Yunus said there had been a flood of fake news and deliberately spread confusion surrounding the elections, but stressed that the interim government remained firm in its commitment to hold the polls on February 12 and to hand over power to a democratically elected government once the results are announced.

“No matter who says what, elections will be held on February 12—not a day before, not a day after,” the Chief Adviser said, adding that the vote would be free, fair and peaceful, and held in a festive atmosphere.
