Interesting interview,...... its almost like she is saying, stuff you, you've all used coal to develop your country's, and so we are going to do the same...... could she be hinting at digging up her own coal........ Nooo i doubt it, but you just never know....

Well that would be make 2023 a fab year.
I think that you have answered the question yourself to be honest if the scheme is submitted to the GOB, for open pit mining then I would suggest that yes we would, I would like to think that once submitted we can be sure that GCM would have done a lot of work in the background and be confident of approval, and with Hasina in her last year and with the state of the energy situation in Bangladesh, i think most are confident that there is more chance of getting the green light now than there has been for some years.....

China to support coal mining in Bangladesh

There will be more Chinese support for coal mining in Bangladesh, said Saiful Islam Sarkar, the managing director of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited.

He said this after meeting Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming, who visited Barapukuria coal mine and Barapukuria Coal Fired 525MW Thermal Power Plant in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur yesterday.

The facilities are currently being run by Chinese companies.

Obviously it was BNP that signed Phulbari over to BHP in the first place, before Asia Energy / GCM got involved… then the coal was going to be exported, now that’s obviously changed and it will stay in the country, so I’m guessing that they will still be for mining more than ever now!!

BNP on Tuesday held talks with Democratic League and a faction of Islami Oikya Jote and discussed about their simultaneous movement to be forged to compel the incumbent government to resign as well as hand over power to a non-party government.

The meeting was held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee Nazrul Islam Khan were present in the meeting among others.
After the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul said they agreed that they will forge simultaneous movement to compel the Awami League government to resign.

I guess pressure is going to start to build, so will Hasina be forced to go sooner rather than later…..

China Energy Engineering Group and China Western Power signed contracts for two new coal power plants in Laos, and in March 2022, PowerChina renewed its agreement to develop the Phulbari coal power project in Bangladesh. All in all, the new coal-fired capacity to be developed under these recent agreements totals 9.7 GW.
