Is anyone aware if figures exist with regard to ‘lost’ capacity. That is , renewable energy for want of a better expression , turned down because it wasn’t required. The same for solar farms. Basically lost capacity which could have been converted to H2? It would be interesting to put a value to this wastage , it would also make a great marketing tool to promote H2 electrolysis as what can possibly be worse than wasting green energy? Criminal.
I’ve said it several times but why oh why don’t we have a direct tie in to Vestas or similar. How much more marketable is a wind turbine array which not only produces electricity but also H2 when it suits. I say ‘suits’ because one would assume you’d only take up the lost capacity as mentioned. However what you actually have is an ability to play the market. You can choose whether to supply the grid or whether to store as H2. You can play the commodities game dependent on electricity and H2 price on the day and the expected prices over the coming weeks/months etc. a bit like fishermen tailoring their catch according to quotas and prices per species. I’m going on a bit but I hope you catch my drift? Personally I think ITM would be a better buy for a Vestas than Shell or even Linde.

May have to go short on oil tanker manufacturers......

One wonders what First Berlin were predicting when the SP was at 18p a year ago? I doubt it was 50p let alone £1 or £1.40 as I type. Who really knows? Ultimately a lot of us have been here for donkeys basically because we knew these kind of rises would happen one day. As Spicers has indicated a number of us will also leave a fair bit in because the best is yet to come. Buy on the dips , expect a rocky ride or keep well clear if you have a heart problem. GLA

On a day like today you can really milk the movements. Nothing is for certain but just look at the yoyoing? Difficult to get it spot on , I sold 10k at 166.5p then bought them back at 157p. Should have waited but hey ho , cost of holdings reduced by £950. Easy to do when you’re a long way in the black admittedly.

Nothing silly about the SP. The company is being priced on future potential and with the markets it is in £1.70 could look small beer in a few years time. A year or so ago it was down at about 18p. Some of us have been here for a very long time so it’s tempting to lock in some profits especially when in effect you’re carrying your holdings for free. The price is being played periodically but then volatility is the dealers friend. The prospects for Hydrogen are massive but not every company will survive. ITM look about the best bet to me. Do your own though etc. GLA

12th May 2006 I sold 2800 shares @ £3.15 , no reason whatsoever why we won’t get back to that level. You just have to expect a rollercoaster ride. That said I’m holding just over half what I did start of year. With major profits banked it makes the rollercoaster less sickening. GLA

Not sure what the figures are TM but I’m still waiting for the 1st day of winter. Shockingly mild of late.

13thM. That’s the point I’ve tried to make. If we can achieve an over capacity of renewables , if we can build in a back up of H2 storage , in effect we waste nothing and the ideal is reached. No doubt the numbers ( as tackled by Bilbs et al ) seem a bit daunting but to my mind only a bit. A lot of people , amongst them a senior Diesel engine expert of my acquaintance , have been surprised how much renewables have been able to contribute. Let’s face it , their availability is in effect limitless. On a side issue , I wonder , if the gas network ends up containing a reasonable proportion of H2 as per the current trial , how useful could that be to say the nations transport system. Probably a daft suggestion ( pressure/extraction issues?) but I’ll throw it in anyway....

It’s light because it all floats to the top 13thM. Seriously though , nothing seems insurmountable. In reality of course nuclear will be with us for some time , as will FF’s but the pressure is on and heightened by yesterday’s announcement.

That’s why we’re here Doc. This has all stemmed from yesterday’s announcement re the advanced 2035 new diesel demise deadline. The pressure has been very much upped on the need for your “whole” solution.

13thM. Basically what I posted the other day. An over supply of renewables alongside H2 storage. Otherwise it’s a game of Russian power roulette and electrical Okie Cokey’s.

TM , that’s exactly where I’m coming from. It’s one thing sticking a kettle on , watching the TV and keeping the landing light on. It’s another powering my (necessary) estate car on it’s 75 mile round trip to work. Then take a look at my local A14 , daily nightmare , the M6 , anywhere along it’s length and start equating to kettles and toasters. From a common sense viewpoint , no need for backs of fag packets , how on earth? Really?

Agreed TM. It all sounds like a plan B without a proper plan A. You’d need a team of electrical actuaries working around the clock. In all honesty if H2 supply doesn’t get sorted along the lines of FF cars today then I’m definitely on my bike!

Trying to understand the logic here re using your car as a back up battery for the grid. How on earth does it make any kind of sense? I’m seeing a system that can just scrape through as long as car owners play the game? Please explain how this works , decision making , battery degradation , financial incentives(?) et al?

I think we’re on the same hymn sheet TM. That said , ‘just cars’ won’t be a little number.

It probably isn’t a problem TM but for the moment it’s you and maybe someone else in the next street. In a very short period you will need to add 10’s of millions of vehicles. Not just your local hairdryer powered shopper but HGV’s , buses , taxis , trains? , etc. etc. The guys in the know on here have covered this over and again. It doesn’t stack up and ultimately it doesn’t make sense.
