The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring financial educator and author Jared Dillian has been released. Listen here.
My post about deals being announced for COP26 seems to have divided opinion. To clarify, it’s not AFC’s call until the buyer signs on the dotted line. I imagine there’d be a predetermined date for that to allow for a joint announcement, as was the case with Urban Airport and ExE. Common sense suggests that the Glastonbury organisers for example would prefer this news to be made public 1st to 12th November (if discussions are still ongoing)
I think that COP26 could end up being a World Cup of can kicking for governments, but not so for companies who wish to show their green credentials. MACE already on board and I’m sure that AB can convert a few others from the dark side. If he can’t, well, we’ll all be asking some blunt questions by the end of December.
Garonne, we may see an RNS but I think it’s pretty clear that orders will only be announced when the buyer wishes it, which is going to be just before or during COP26. AFC will then do likewise but could release further news akin to the Urban airport deal. I hope I’m wrong but I’ve mentally prepared for sod all until November.
Lots said on this already but using the word ‘expects’ places the order status somewhere between possible and guaranteed. Clearly the market feels the same way. If I ping an email to someone and I state that I ‘expect’ a reply, it means that I anticipate receiving it.
Also, I guess we don’t actually have confirmed orders until buyers want to confirm it, which is likely to be close to COP26.
junior, I’m sure IT had to give at least one months notice. Regarding clarity; ABB will have been working with AFC engineers throughout this process, so despite the lack of update, I’m still confident that all will be well (fingers crossed).
CFP, I agree with you. The silence is deafening and like you, I haven’t sold. I have faith but it’s not blind. Nothing has changed regarding AFC’s prospects, but it most definitely is a question of whether they could do better. I don’t like average, but this is what AFC seem happy with. Happy to keep quiet, happy to wait until q4 to announce any of these ‘qualified enquiries’ which could become orders and happy to let sentiment affect the share price. This is all very uninspiring and goes against my personal principles of doing the best you can, even if your best is another persons 70% effort.
I see people on here commenting that social media is tacky (or whatever term you wish to insert) but when I mention that ABB are all over it, they have no answer. So, yes, AB and his team are in my opinion underperforming, but, if they are striving for mediocrity then they’ve ticked all the boxes.
This doesn’t mean I’m impatient or will sell, just that I don’t accept that AFC are ‘average’ at all. They are not grey, they are green, with a terrific product which they should be telling the world about. ABB don’t do it to make sales; they do it to keep their brand in the public consciousness and win hearts and minds along the way. AB and his top rate team are not doing as much as they could, it’s that simple.
Keep in mind that it’s not ‘if’ but ‘when’.
Yes, I expect AB to deliver based on his own updates and there’s only so much you can blame on Covid and delivery issues, especially when AFC have hired people specifically to navigate these choppy waters. Big oil is going and hydrogen stock will take its place soon enough. Not a panicker by nature and the company are growing in the right way, so I’ll hold. Good luck to those who can buy in at a lower price but you won’t be buying any of my shares.
iWTO, unfortunately where governments are concerned, I don’t think any of them are prepared to be transformative in their thinking.
Some very tough decisions need to be made, but they’re not up to the task. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t see COP 26 delivering anything of substance. They’ll announce progress, that they’re moving forwards, but once we look into it it’ll be the usual smoke and mirrors garbage with a move into blue hydrogen to keep the big companies happy. A few years will roll by and before you know it the environmental harm will have been worse than anticipated. Another of my climate rants, but I just don’t think politicians are good enough; some brains maybe, but no common sense. We end up storing radioactive waste or burying Co2 because it’s easier or cheaper than a truly greener alternative.
T’was ridiculous near me. Four places to fill up, all with long queues and two have now run out of diesel. I’d normally only put in half a tanks worth, but what choice do you have when people are filling cars and fuel cans across the entire forecourt.
Garonne, whilst I may have been pushing for some news, I’m quite happy with that which came out yesterday. A trickle is fine as it maintains interest, but I’ve never stressed about the share price or how long ABB take to evaluate our system. It takes as long as it takes, and if they’re putting their name to it I don’t care. ABB are top notch and if it passes their scrutiny, we’re good to go.
