And the link therein http://www.zte.com.cn/global/about/press-center/press-clipping/201106/353801 I like the in the Selly quote “...We’ve been very impressed with the knowledge and sophistication of ZTE’s team...” - very sophisticated and knowledgeable it seems. Huawei on the other hand have been quite open about the tech and code.

I’m bemused. The share price has risen over the last week, now all the chatter is how it’s a rising stock. More than a week ago it was doom and gloom. Great if you are in the Black now but emotions are so transparent... sentiment seems to make the market in between actual business-relevant information!

Quite right Smasher, £500m Italian job and who is held to account? Times change yet it’s the workers who get the kicking, not the board. They will have decent pensions. But... 100,000 employees - what do they all do? Okay, 88,000, 12k were from EE. And the future? It ain’t copper. That’s old tech, sweated to exhaustion. Not many younger folk bother with fixed line for a phone. They have mobile. They text, they don’t talk. They will want fast data and low latency for their games or apps. Older codgers with their phone line and nowt else are literally a dying breed. Fibre. Mobile network. But this needs serious investment.

I thought my post might generate some comment. So, some want to go, some don’t... if it’s not the engineers on the ground then how do you get rid of the middle (meddle) management then?! And how do you turn around the company ethos so that fixing it for The Customer first time is the mantra (not just ticking boxes and handing it off to someone else). If the contract engineers are making a pigs ear of the fibre network, who is managing them? Who’s there to make sure it’s a quality job? Is it always everyone else’s problem? Just curious.

Just how many of these mid to late 50s employees - that are “waiting to go” - are there? ;-) I suppose if they go that will go a small way to reducing overheads and release some cash and prop up the share via the divi. Thing is, all their managers will need to recruit more to justify their existence...

internet of things - if 5G delivers on low latency (1ms) then there could be a lot more things that want to send a lot of data and with minimal delay. But it’s not the driver The killer app died a long time ago. Capacity is the requirement - and that also means efficiently handling of huge amounts of data as close to the radio as possible - with an even more efficient use of (new) spectrum. Edge computing perhaps to reduce latency - more distributed hardware... virtualisation... all-IP voice for fixed and mobile and “converged”... lot going on to make it all a little more efficient and drive down the cost to serve... lot to do. Lot of investment by the industry... and of course the punter, if not convinced needs to be told they need a faster and more reliable service....

And indeed the same price. Can’t imagine spending money equals an uptick in share price? Suppose it’s good news in that BT/EE haven’t fallen behind... on to the next step - what actual bits of spectrum the MNOs will get...

By my calcs they all (but O2) paid the price same per MHz. Voda got more spectrum though.

Just about in the black..? How long have you been holding - long term investment then?!

I’m not a chartist (feels like numerology!) but... I look at the share price graph on here and from 2016 it looks like you could draw a nice straight trend line thought it - pointing downwards. Not sure I’ve heard anything that will reverse that trend any time soon, or even if this is the bottom anything that will mean recovery would be quicker, maybe it will take just as long, if not longer. Mobile revenue is strong, just as well BT bought EE when it did. Oh that was formally completed in 2016. But correlation does not mean causation.

If you were buying now - then the dividend yield looks great (say, 7%) - with the risk that your capital may drop by that amount or more (SP keeps on trend) before ex-div date. If you believe there are good prospects and the SP is to rise then you’ll be sitting pretty. Only of course if you sell and realise the profit (or loss). If you bought at 500p and emotion is at play, then it becomes a “long term investment” ;-)

When I were researching such things, sections of optical fibre with different optical properties could be inserted such that the chromatic dispersion could be reversed (up to a point). A limiting factor is then the attenuation - but can’t just increase the power - higher power introduced nonlinear optical effects (esp. where multiple wavelengths were used). But that was 20 years ago and I’ve not followed the research. Anyway, delivering power - nice idea. I’ll read the article, can’t imagine it’s much power and not very efficient.

And why do you have that opinion? I could say, “it’s going down to 1p imo.” Or “it’s going up to 200-300p imo”. I note you didn’t put the “h” imo.

it’s going up! It’s a 10-bagger! It’s going down! The sky is falling! And so the pattern repeats. Across shares. I’m amused but soon to be bored of this froth. Unless there’s new news it’s buy (well, bought) and hold.

Satellite broadband is for those hard to reach places that will never get physical connectivity (fibre) though some may eventually get mobile coverage (but all depends on the geography) - so it’s the future for people in such places. The main drawback for satellite internet is the latency (round trip time from ground to satellite and back - speed of light is quick but it’s a big distance to cover!) - which isn’t really a problem for general internet access (and compared to no access!) but would be for specific services (eg real-time gaming or mission-critical services). [4G (when in coverage!) is going to provide broadband speeds of “up to” 100s of Mbits per second (towards 1Gbps) whereas 5G is about reduced latency (1millisec latency) and higher speeds (though how much speed does a human user need?) - and more about efficiency to meet exponential data demand.] Anyway, SAT looks good as there is a definite demand, they are growing and this latest deal means they are in a prime place. Not sure when it will hit 10p - may take its time - I’m oft amused by the “gonna hit 10p soon” when it rises a little after a period of quiet.

We all have work to do ;) odd you have time to post a 'teaser' and post a reply - but no time to provide actual content... ? I trust it's info that no one else outside if the BoD knows and it means we will all retire early?!

Indeed it does say that. Wishful thinking I guess - big sell off tomorrow then! (incentive not inventive in my previous. Though money spinning inventiveness - except mis-selling! - to be encouraged)

Extra share looks to be for director/employee inventive plans... an incentive to keep people from leaving or an incentive to get that share price up :) I also thought there was supposed to be an update on redress today... It was talked about... no news is good news (or at least keeps the sp flat)
