So how will the divi affect the price? first time I am watching a share so closely... 10.55p on a share worth 234.25 (ish), about 4.5%. So, assuming the price remains the same (simple model) - then is that 4.5% already factored in to the sp? Once ex-div should it drop by that same amount, ie by 10.55p per share to 233.70p? Of course it has been recently increasing so life is never so simple!

And the question is.... why? I’m mean why now; today. What’s really changed? As to what does the infra. review mean? As HiiS said, the future - in the UK - is fibre and mobile. Satellite broadband has (had?) a limited window of opportunity in Western European markets. Perhaps there are opportunities for larger countries with sparsely populated areas... in the meantime... need to understand the numbers...

C3PO - Sky less complaints than BT? - no surprise: when working at one2one/T-Mobile it was Virgin Mobile customers who thought more highly of “their” network, with much higher satisfaction rates - when it was the exact same network underneath. So it’s perception rather than reality - taken from brand/image to experience of contact with customer services... big job ahead, but Alera improved EE over time...

I think it depends on the household’s needs. One or more 4K TV for streaming video or video games... I recall (probably very badly) a quote attributed to a Gates about 256k of memory being enough for a pc... I take it that country broadband league table is about fixed-line only? How about comparing mobile broadband and coverage? I don’t think 5G is about speed either (though that might be a marketing shout) - it’s surely about network efficiency and low latency. Now why has that chap at Telstra gone... might he have lined up a job near St Paul’s?

H-hi, you say quad play but mobile should be explicit. Isn’t this a new solid rock of BT? the future being mobile centric - the focus on 5G (yeah, yeah business case! but it has to be built, can’t stand still (no pun intended) along with launching the network for the emergency services and “convergence”. I hope the new CEO has the right focus - hopefully DT’s hand get them out of a rut. But still a long, slow recovery IF they get it right and it doesn’t stay stuck in the past (and no doubt for the employees it will probably a painful recovery...)..

Olaf might be touted - he would probably have the backing of DT - he turned around EE with the focus on 4G launch then. Maybe he could do the same with a focus on “convergence” with fibre and 5G (I mean fixed and mobile)... but perhaps he is happy breathing Swiss air and wouldn’t want to wrestle the behemoth that is BT...

Hmmm - self-imposed targets - that 100k figure... now what? There is the sluggishness of subscribers to swap, but not if the prices are substantially different and the experience (latency) is having an impact... though having something rather than nothing may have a longer lasting effect - I hope they are engendering loyalty in their base... So yes, for Western Europe I think there *has* been a sweet spot for satellite broadband - but are they paying too much to acquire the customer?... depends on the above and, yet given fibre-to-the-rural-home is unlikely/cost prohibitive, 4G is reaching further but will never cover every home and 5G... well, that will take even longer to reach as far as 4G will - dependent on 700MHz spectrum), maybe there’s mileage - and w. Europe allows expansion elsewhere... if it goes lower... do I get out just breaking even...

I was thinking binary - either fibre or satellite - but yes, FWA will need fibre access so the costs are there - just compared to FTTH(!) there isn’t the “last mile” (or whatever distance in outback Australia ;) ). Anyhow, disposing of 40% of the base for a song doesn’t feel right! But I am sure they’ve done their sums....

Bid/ask difference small... great but where’s the return to pre-consolidation levels... or should I be patient?!

Thanks Zib. Clarity. And ending chinese whispers. BT successfully convinced Ofcom that they can put OR at arms length. If isn’t seen to be working then complete separation from BT may be the recourse. But that won’t be cheap - and would distract from necessary priorities surely?

If I have my facts right - BBB (SAT) bought Skymesh (and Brieband in Norway) for Aus$20m to get 41k of subscribers combined, 28k was Skymesh. That works out at A$488 per sub. BBB just sold off 11k fibre users for A$1.5m or A$78 per sub... okay not satellite customers but feels like they were sold off at bargain basement price... then again, BBB will have removed the costs of a fibre service...

Beebop - maybe you’re on to something with the IoI (internet of ice-lollies)... Satellite IoT. Niche. 5.8m devices by 2023? If you believe the hype that will be 0.1% of the total. I get ubiquitous coverage, but it will need to have a good power source and “see” the satellite to send up it’s data. Doesn’t sound like it will compete with IoT - where DT offered a 10 year IoT connection for €10 (total) (okay for “just” a cap of 500MB - but if it’s just small amounts of data daily...). Need to go up the service chain to make better money. Maybe the ice-lolly business isn’t so bad after all...

V2x needing low latency promised by 5G... gaming... ooh the hype... a few years away yet for all of this anyway .. and the mobile operators aren’t rushing to become bit pipes - not much to do with satellites with their low latencies and low (by comparison) data rates. bbb are looking at terra firma and just not up at the big blue then?

For rural 5G there will be 700 MHz - but that has yet to be auctioned, so is some time away. As to selling mobiles - yep, cutthroat market. Do they have a deal with an network operator to use a mobile network? Otherwise when these country folks reach “civilisation” what will their mobile connect to?

Yes, I think BT’s problems go further back than GP. Not that his tenure has helped much looking at the share price... seems like it was more hair product, than lipstick, on a pig.
