The Chinese advisers in Italy are saying early detection and subsequent early isolation is the most effective thing you can do. At the moment we do not have adequate resources in place to do necessary levels of detection as they have in SKorea, where they have had the lowest fatality rate. So I would buy time with shut downs now while we can put field hospitals in place for triage pre intensive care, as they do now in Spain, we can put more test centres in place, we need to get more supplies in - chloroquinine has shown to be effecacious in treatment but is in .short supply ( which is why suppliers are not releasing stocks and the government has banned its export) , we need more PPE and RPE particularly at medical centres, we need to to train clinicians and support staff, also lessons are being learnt all the time eg zinc may help as an antiviral but may need other things to help it work on covid, also those with hypertension are higher risk but that may be due to the ace inhibitors they are taking allowing the virus to increase more rapidly- conversely the ace inhibitors may prevent 5he effects on the lungs.
The time we buy gives us a chance to know more and put things in place rather than just accept overwhelming the system.

Franny, few politicians make sense, some scientists do and so it’s right to trust them more. perhaps. There is known to be selection bias by scientists with regard to their research. The whole thing about eating more carbs and less fat and protein was started from research bias by Ansel Keys in the sixties. Ever since diabetes, hypertension, cancer and other conditions have increased as high carb diets have been taken up. We were told all would resolve, but have got up proportionately with carb intake in the population. Loads of wheat and grainy stuff as part of the usual diet is based on very flawed science. I think I should be in charge in this crisis. First off get three of them big cruise ships that are empty and use them as covid hospitals. Train up all the young army personnel in the specifics of the nursing looking after Covid19 ( they don’t need know other stuff) with a few days training, they all got bio gear, the ships got lots of rooms with toilets etc, big cooking facilities, easy to isolate the ship, also field hospitals, all that can take considerable pressure if the NHS and allow better care. In the meantime shut up shop all over now for two weeks, get loads of mobile testing centres set up. It’s all boullux at the moment- medical centre where brother in law works is now shut cos one positive chap rocked up the other day. Do whatever they got in place at the moment is pooh.
