RE: The arrogance of Johnson....15 Mar 2020 12:51
Regardless of politics. Boris imo is not the person to lead through this, as I have said Jeremy Hunt would be better for this- qualified Doctor as opposed to Boris who studied Greek Myths.
The are huge lessons being learned about dealing with the infected, and a good many of us will be, so the later along gives us more chance to mitigate. Let’s get the equipment like ventilators, stocks of drugs, perhaps field hospitals( could be empty cruise ships), train extra staff up, testing, perhaps develop more treatments, build temporary crematoriums, get the army trained as support nurses and body collectors and consider a central essential supply and distribution system. Planning properly before doing a thing is simply better. Without support systems in place there won’t be below 1% like SKorea it will be like it is in Iran and China before they put measures in place with a not officially 20% fatality. Lombardy is one of the richest areas in Europe and there the death rate is rising.
As for herd immunity, I understand that immunity to Coronavirus of any sort only lasts about three months, that’s why we keep Getting colds ( there are also rhinovirus colds). So immunity would be of no value next year even if you did sacrifice Hunan beings now.
We need to develop treatments and general vaccines. Therapies can be developed more rapidly, they know that HIV and malaria treatments have efficacy.
Time and preparation, as for those that want to be in the herd, that’s a great and noble sacrifice for the rest of us, unnecessary though.
