RE: Long read for long haulers23 Jan 2021 13:19
A god post by RMM. The vaccines are not all what they are made out to be. As a rule with flu it is seasonal hence flu jabs for the most vulnerable at the end of autumn. This bugger is here 24/7. Like all viruses it has the ability to mutate. The Covid 19 is mutating all the time. It would be naive to think that a vaccine is a be all and end all. It will assist. What happens should people be vaccinated that already have the virus yet test negative. Will this in itself result in a far more resilient form of Covid-19?
Eventually, herd immunity will develop but that most certainly is not going to happen any time soon. The common cold has over 200 variants. just because you have had a cold it does not stop catching another variant. This must also be true of the corona virus, as it is what it is, that is a virus. Hence should more people catch Covid 19 the more it will mutate. Long term health problems are the consequences for many who have contracted and survived the virus. This in the future will place a phenomenal burden on our already way over stretched health service.
Limiting the spread of the virus by the use of good hygiene practices and RPE, vaccines and lastly but not least, one of the most important, if not the most important is the early diagnosis and an effective treatment at an early stage for patients.
If there were an effective treatment that can be used on those that are likely to develop the worst symptoms and signs then the country could start reducing lockdowns and get back on its feet. Until an effective treatment is found whether it is Tyk 2 or any other pharmaceutical kinase inhibitor then it is very unlikely that we will pass the worldwide peak of this pandemic in the next few years.
