Hi Spud.
Patience needed in uncertain times. Our ancestors had to be much more so, depending as they did upon the seasons and the weather.
The year was 1034 AD. From his village on the southeast coast of Iceland, the local Viking chieftain was planning his next voyage to the south to raid and plunder. Rudolph had inherited his long flowing red hair and beard, and his nickname, from his ancestor “Eric the Red”. All through the long winter months his people, who were expert boat builders and sailors, had been preparing their longboats for the trip. Each day Rudolph would climb the hill at the edge of the village and look out to sea to monitor the changing seasons and assess the likely future weather conditions. Finally, the day came when he was satisfied that a period of dry and settled weather lay ahead and he rushed back to his home to tell his wife that the time had come for he and his warriors to depart. “But how do you know that the weather will be fine and dry?” she asked him. “Because Rudolph the Red knows rain dear” he replied.
Regards, R.
