Culzean Castle Part 1
Yesterday (on our granddaughter free day) we visited Culzean Castle and Country Park in Ayrshire, which is a National Trust for Scotland property. I knew as soon as we entered the driveway this was going to be interesting, with all the art-work lining the driveway (rustic metal spherical shapes with a candle like light inside)
The first two or three car parks were full but not with ordinary cars, posh cars, expensive cars and almost new cars, the grey brigade had arrived before us. The castle was interesting (will not irritate you with too much of that) and we had coffee and cake (served in a silver coffee pot and expensive crockery) with stunning views of the Island of Arran and Aisla Craig.
There was some details about how the Lady of the Castle used to lock the kitchen maids in to prevent them going to the local dances and the male servants would assist the kitchen maids to “escape” through the metal window bars, but they had to be very thin. I had an idea and maybe the New Prime Minister, when they are elected could pass legislation to install a similar device outside all fast food outlets, if you can’t squeeze through then you obviously should not be eating junk food, obviously you would have to have some form of contraption for the drive-thru, like making them all get off their rears and also attempt to squeeze through. I know this is impossible to implement but some things are possible if you put your mind to them.
One thing I found unusual about the Lady and Gentleman of the Castle was that whenever they were in London they would send their laundry back to the Castle, over 500 miles away. Why would someone do that? The time, effort and expense to pack, take to the train station then collect in Ayr and then horse and cart to the Castle, unbelievable and the smell. You do get to see how the other half lived.
