I've been in touch with BioServ asking what they understand about the situation. Pointing out that it looks like I cannot use AffiDX for my Day test. This is the reply;

'The DHSC has made a mess of the situation!
The approval process for lateral flow and PCR kits set out by Health Security Agency’s Medical Devices is not related to the requirements of Day 2 antigen testing.
As long as you can find an approved provider of Day 2 antigen tests, and they are willing to use this test (and send you a unique identification number/ QR code for the test) then they can be used because they pass the criteria of the Target Product Profile.

I'm uncertain they are correct about still being able to use AffiDX as the Day 2 test. Views welcome. But the last para is very encouraging.

The box of 25 AffiDX has just been delivered by FedEx. No use to me now, but will they increase in value due to their rarity? Should I sell them individually on the collector’s section on EBay or return to sender?

Seems I've caused some confusion. Viapath are not up and running yet for Day 2 Antigen LFTs. So they have referred me to Prenetics. Hopefully I will soon know more. The box of AffiDX LFTs are one their way from BioServ. Cost £234 for a box of 25.

I think they would have mentioned illegality in their email reply to me only yesterday;

I'm waiting to hear back from Viapath. But thinking about this, it can't be quite like the PCR test, which involved posting the test to a laboratory, because its an LFT. So will it involve sending a photo or a video to the approved supplier of me using the test? How does this differ from a home use test? Seems like it will be the same as a home use test!

I asked for details on the recommended provider. This is their reply;

I replied and asked about the 'approved supplier'. This is the reply;

'A UK Government approved Covid test provider needs to issue a report for the Day 2 test, just like the PCR Day 2 tests were done. Here at BioServUK, we supply just the diagnostic test and not reports.

I can recommend a test provider if required'

I'm going for a short trip to Spain soon. I contacted BioServ to ask if the Avacta test could be used for the day 2 test. This is their reply;

Presumably this list will either be deleted or updated from Monday 25/10/21 when the requirements change to self declaration that LFTs meet the recently published standard.

Tut, they could mean no technology such as breathalysers or sniffer dogs, for which a validation processes have not been established.

Agree with you Luke re LFT being established technology. It’s also encouraging at 9.2 to note that the Spanish validation by their accredited body sounds like the route for an easy home run.

Good reason to tighten up again on mask wearing, plus we will shortly have the best test.
