Integrated - not a stand alone power plant.
Suggesting that they might build the power station but not the mine, is actually daft. Similarly, to suggest that they are going to ship in some old de-commissioned coal fired power station is risible. The only way they will get this approved is using the latest carbon capture technology - an ultra-critical spec. plant(s).
We should get an uptick in the SP on JVA approval- maybe low 30's, the perennial slide back to low 20's as Dhaka sits on it. The next stage is going to be where people may be wrong-footed. Negative news from the GOB could see this slide back to single figures, positive news and show of commitment by Hasina - 300p and climbing if there is real impetus to the scheme.

I have to acknowledge Michael Tang has secured us an impressive partner in PowerChina. This is a company with massive expertise in this type of civil engineering / electro-mechanical project and we simply could not have found a better partner at a better time (B&R I).

The clock is now ticking and barring any hitches, we should have a JVA nailed down in the next two weeks.

This will then go to Dhaka, Hasina will huff and puff about being too busy and it will sit there. At some point she will have to look at it, discuss with her ministers and seek 'further clarification;....ha ha ha...where have we hears that recently. Nothing new there but...….there will be plenty of 'stalking horses, double agents and senior ministers taking 'brown envelopes' from the Indians and I cannot see them taking this lying down. Right on their doorstep, a huge resource of high calorific thermal coal, just when they are having to import vast quantities to meet their own demands

I would imagine that they could stall our proposal / project for some time, but not indefinitely. Hasina will listen to what they say, no doubt high-lighting imaginary problems of water, human habitation, re-location and food production - all of which will be addressed by the Chinese consortium in their presentation.

I don't believe the current production figures, I think they are overstated by at least 4000MW because they have bought nothing major, new on-stream and much of their electricity is generated by Aggreko using mobile plant - 7000MW if you can believe that.

Chowdhury does at least admit to their (Bangla) shortcomings, but 70+ year old woman in personal charge of this important Ministry......ummm, certainly not convinced. My biggest worry is that the JVA will be signed, this fantastic, ground breaking, detailed, funded project will be submitted to the GOB and in their time-honoured fashion.....they will sit on it and do sweet f.a.

...so, 25% of the Dhaka stock exchange, is owned by the Shanghai Exchange. Maybe that means raising capital for a mega project in Bangladesh is not quite such a hurdle.

A Dhaka listing was always a possibility for the new company (element of appeasement) but maybe Shanghai could be the place to raise mega funds.

CS - agreed, the Chinese have the negotiating clout and finance to overcome any hurdles which lie ahead. Similarly, I agree that we won't see Michael Tang in hard hat and 'gilet jaune' looking at trenches, detailed drawings or excavators. This will be a company 'on the block' with one suitor - PowerChina.
The loan to GCM at a coverable rate of 11p / share was a blinder if he can pull it off and get the deal done. Apart from the financial benefit to him personally, I like the short term nature of the deal as if he knows its an in / out deal.

Could still all go wrong, but looking more positive by the day.

...it did cross my mind yesterday that the Chinese may have used the 'carrot & stick' approach by saying Powerchina . Hydro Sino will only help you if you give the go-ahead for mining Phulbari. In other words, don't mess around with 'blue sky thinking' of LNG and Nuclear, this is a package and only goes ahead as a package - Mine, power stations and distribution infrastructure......job done.

They have to know that Hasina is not going to sit on her hands, hold countless studies and committees and do nothing. Maybe this is why deadlines were inserted for JV and presentation to the GOB. Hasina heads up the Power division with her various acolytes....certainly going to be an interesting few months, but I cannot see PowerChina hanging around too long - Yes, we go ahead, No, we kick it into touch and get on with other projects..

...while these 'holier than thou' agencies criticise China for exporting their coal technology, they seem to overlook the key health benefits that electricity can bring.Try running a sewage plant without electricity. Many of us will have seen the photos last week of the poor people of Bangladesh trying to harvest a living out of the paddyfields and swampland of the delta. Electrical power will mean large capacity pumps and filtration systems can deal with the effluent, sanitation and fresh water demands of the populace. They live in constantly damp accomodation, have one of the highest still-born birth rates in the world and yet everyone seems to be focused on CO2 emissions. Coal fired generation will be redundant in thirty years, give the poor people of Bangladesh at least some chance of a better life during this short window.

I learned a few years ago that the successful traders / investors work on the premise of 'how much can I lose' not how much can I make. It disciplines your thinking and makes you not over-extend and means you set 'stop losses'.

I actually believe that this is going to be a successful investment and we will all make money...BUT....we could all wake up to a 7.00am RNS in January, saying the deal is off and the SP plummets to 3p again. As I have stated on numerous occasions, I see us being taken out fairly early on at 250p. I will put the money into copper - RIO, ANTO and AAL without even a backward glance at GCM or AIM.

I see another AIM duffer has gone to the wall, with allegations of corruption - Belzone Mining a Guinea based load of sh^^. Chuck in Georgian Mining - 'oh, we forgot to renew the permit' and that perennial duffer for dreamers AMC, now in the 2p trading range and its a sorry picture.
