Yes, WTI have gone bust, but what better way to salvage your reputation than by pulling off the mega deal, the GCM deal. A lot of work has been done on the planning stage for Phulbari, all is not lost yet. In reality, if this was still a non-starter, I think we would have heard by now.

I don't know why people are banging on about a massive dilution - the funding of Phulbari by GCM is a non-starter, it is way out of our league. I continue to remain open-minded on the outcome here, we have had so many setbacks over the last decade. However, Michael Tang has taken on the challenge, found us a heavyweight partner and I am is sure working away diligently to secure us a result. The strike at Barapukria could help our cause as it will focus on a long-term solution for both mines. We wait.........

Imi, great find, but jeez, the incompetence is unbelievable. The Banglas are brilliant at making clothes but keep them well away from any civil engineering project. Apart from the time delays, its the cost overruns that are so frightening, the planning progress seems plucked from the sky. The Padma bridge sums up the fiasco and their struggle to find a solid rock base for the pylons is laughable if it was not so sad - Chinese, Japanese, Malaysians - all highly skilled...��. let them get on with it, anybody but the Banglas

...anybody who is a shareholder in Vedanta will be aware of the similarities with Tuticorin @ Phulbari - load of local activists and the rent-a-mob crowd confront the police and thirteen die in the ensuing riot. Local government shut down smelter & close site - 400,000 tonnes of copper production lost. Sad but predictable and we must not forget what happened a decade ago and with vested parties (there are bound to be some) not wanting a mine - hey ho....do the same again. Deaths - merely collateral damage in their eyes. Never underestimate the power of the sub-continent to mess things up......

John McDonnell is a fool and was just trying to grab some headlines with a sound bite. To many other jobs in the region are reliant on the copper smelter...environmental concerns can always be resolved with the right processes and expertise.

...9 months arrears, jobs for family & friends + a reduced six hour shift. I can's see this being resolved quickly and it may impact on GCM / CGGC as Hasina will want it sorted and not more reasons for violent protests in the region. Disappointing, as this may drag on for a while.

...I've been in too many AIM miners who, like Icarus, have crashed to earth and I have lost money. ...African Minerals, London Mining, Beacon Hill Resources etc... Fortunately I have had some pretty good investments such as RIO, AAL and First Quantum which have done extremely well so have been able to offset the losses. I know you have indicated you were over extended on GCM & AMC, so I really wish you the best - I have been there.

....just had a look at the AMC board where bees and El Salvador are invested. If we think we have it tough, its nothing compared to AMC. A nickel mine (etc...etc..) in far eastern Russia, with an arrogant CEO who draws a fat salary and seems to achieve zilch....except 'talk the talk'. With the Skripals, Abramovich and World Cup looming, a British 'tiddler' in Russia, doesn't have a hope. I was invested in AMC seven years ago and nothing has happened. Michael Tang may fail with Phulbari, nothing is guaranteed, but with a heavyweight Chinese partner and highly driven CEO, I'll stick with GCM and forget about Kamchatka or wherever Amur are.

....with oil @ $80 / barrel and LNG prices rising fast, we have the perfect scenario. Even the cost of running their Aggreko generators on diesel will be soaring. Trying to dodge the issue will really no longer be an option for Hasina, her ministers must recognise they are sitting on a 'gold-mine' of resources which will not bankrupt the country and will give them energy security for decades. Thermal coal prices could have slumped, oil could be $25 dollars a barrel and the world awash with LNG tankers - It's not. We are due a bit of good fortune - roll on next month.

I'm optimistic and think we are okay, there is a lot of 'chatter' in Bangla at the moment and the stark realisation they need a lot of power and quickly - a lost decade of wrong decisions and procrastination has been costly. I'm going to stick with June being the key month for the project.......my preferred option - we are taken out @ �3.00 / share.

Narrul Hamid said the country needs high level technical support for local coal extraction and setting up and running coal-run power stations. In this regard, he sought support from Australia as Bangladesh will require hundreds of thousands of engineers trained up on power generation. You would have to say that he is just about endorsing the fact that coal extraction on a vast scale is going to happen - you don't need thousands of mine engineers just for Barapukria....

...arrived on 13th April with 24,500 tonnes of coal and still unloading now - doesn't bode well for Bangladesh importing millions of tonnes of coal for their power stations.

....that is what we hope Hasina and her ministers are feeling after being briefed on the Indian coal / power generation projects. This hike in thermal coal prices has really played into our hands, the value of the coal underground at Phulbari must be increasing daily.....and, the exposing of the low calorie / high ash / high pollution coal being used in some Indian power stations. Blending may be a short term solution but as Buckley states, even the Oz Carmichael coal is rubbish. Who was cute enough to flog that asset ?? I can see the GOB becoming increasingly challenged but with the solution right in front of their eyes - roll on June, decision day is getting closer.
