Wonder if it's worth a short. Most recent rights issues I can remember have seen the price head down to the rights issue price over a week or two.

Spike didn't hold and has pulled back. Looks like 1900 is the nut to crack at the moment before gold makes proper gains again.

(minor correction - was on the futures page rather than spot - so the sharp jump was up to $1900 rather than 1902)

Gold's just moved up sharply. Back up to over $1900 now (currently $1902).

waferthintam - I think you're misreading the Guardian quote.
It doesn't say they've ordered them to manufacture 1 million doses.
It's simply saying they've started asking suppliers to gear up production because they want to be in a position to be able to supply something like 1m doses if required.

Not taking sides in the argument but I find it hard not to read most of that last Org30 post in a Donald Trump voice.....

It's worth remembering that people's perceptions can often be warped by having too short-term an outlook.

Well, the Mali situation looks to be going as well as could be hoped, so having been away for a bit whilst the dust settled, seems like a good time to buy back in for about the same price I sold for. To be honest I didn't think I was going to be able to.....but the recent pullback in gold has no-doubt been rather fortunate for me (arguably equally as unfortunate as the coup was for me / my nerves).

I was curious as to how these RNSs would affect the price.
Didn't bother saying anything as I knew it wouldn't be popular.
However it's a pretty predictable reaction of open high and then pull back lower and this should be expected on any RNS that doesn't involve government approvals/purchases or a deal with a pharma giant.
As this wasn't one of those two things the reaction is to be expected as people ponder whether the treatment will get to market in time.
This has been the state of play for quite a while now.

The media coverage about Patrick Vallance is a simple gammon-based moronic smear campaign that's migrated from online abuse of anyone trying to control the virus with restrictions (Whitty/Vallance) to now being a smear campaign in the gammon-controlled newspapers.

It's really very simple....It's blindingly obvious that one of the world's biggest pharma companies would be working on a vaccine, and it's blindingly obvious that one of the former top-employees of a company would have shares in it.

It's a complete non-story designed to vilify Vallance and Whitty and get gullible people to fight restrictions (and line the pockets of the gammons who don't want it for social and financial reasons).

I'm positive on Shell in the longer term but the excitement over a recovery in the morning was crazy. The UK is at the level of cases from near the highs earlier in the year, and we've barely put any restrictions in place, let alone a full lockdown, everyone back at schools/nurserys, pubs still open 99% of the time, etc. More virus pain is coming and then there's Brexit sharp approaching to lump on more pain.
It's going to be very unlikely for virus cases to drop sharply in virus season with no significant measures to stop it and Boris' clowns are still playing a dangerous game of chicken with a good chance of ending in tears because they still believe their own bluster.
I think RDSB will be a big winner in the end....but there could be more pain on the UK markets in the coming weeks and months.

Not a bad idea volatility, even if only for the reason that if you fall ill with something flu like, and a cough, you'll have a better reason to be concerned and seek medical attention ASAP. It certainly won't do you any harm (despite what the anti-vaxxers say).

There's no chance London has 50% immunity / herd immunity. That's living in cloud cuckoo land.
This is also ignoring the fact they've stated there's evidence suggesting antibodies, in those that have them, may not last that long anyway.
There's a lot of people being very blasé about this virus because they draw drastically flawed conclusions from data.

Media stories about banks are a load of overblown nonsense. Anyone who didn't expect some dodgy money to be going through banks is a total moron.

Chrishar - always best to buy when people can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Went from 80p to 130p earlier this year when people turned more positive after first wave. That's an astronomic move for a blue chip (nearly 70%) in a month. When things look at their worst is when I get interested ;)

Perfect storm for banks. Overblown scandal about dodgy people putting money through banks (who would have thought it) combined with virus woes. Barclays at about 90p is a gift. Whether it retests the years lows about 80p or not I'd be amazed if 90p didn't look like a monster bargain in future years.

The science advisors are just being put up in his place to tell everyone what should be obvious, in that the virus is getting worse fast, unsurprisingly as they tried to push everyone back to normality too quickly, whilst spectacularly failing to get a mass testing programme running, or more aggressive tracking/monitoring, or backing treatments like this.
So it's not Boris' fault for the share price fall today - it is his fault for being a totally inept muppet - leading a government filled with imbecilic lackies - puppeteered by evil hobbits like Cummings and ultra-right wing loons like the ERG.
