Being positive, I actually think the II's have been pretty steady here, by and large, and in recent times, we've probably had net buying by them, judging by the MorningStar data.
I think the mad swings in gold have just been nobbling confidence, from all parties, leading to a kind of game of chicken where PIs/IIs alike, sit on their hands, but all are ready to pounce if they think gold's making a decisive move one way or the other.

Markets are all over the shop today. FTSE giants hammered for very little reason. I think bi-polar would be a generous description and underplaying the behaviour ;)

The move down in gold was BS overreaction to the Fed saying the same obvious waffle it was always likely to. Means there's a lot of scope for recovery - especially when many traders buy on technical nonsense - makes both falls and rises self-fulfilling.

The market makers must be loving it. Some turnip just sold 100k at 15.25p.
I'd have happily paid them more than that myself, but as this isn't a SETS stock, there's no order book, so the MM's can just lap it up and flog it for a lot more.

I think this stock is one of the most credible there is around hence the broad range of institutions which seems to be increasing if anything.
However, it does seem like the herd of PIs is more herdy than ever, and currently 95% of punters are probably obsessed with 5% of the stocks on the market.
A few PI's extra that buy the good news doesn't outweigh a bit of profit-taking from existing holders and the II's have their bigger orders worked over a longer period so have no incentive to push up the price immediately if they want more.
Big moves in the gold price are what shifts this around more quickly up and down but overall the trend is still pretty strong imo:

I don't imagine it's about the cash, and really just about getting rid of something that came as part of a package, that they never really wanted, and they don't think fits with the core business.
Don't really understand your question - but it sounds like your answering it yourself....not very profitable and non-core so they flogged it.

Hard question to answer...in the sense that most gold probably isn't visible but visible gold occurrences are super-duper rare either.
Personally, the way I'd think of it, is that a tin-pot company might make a big deal of one tiny bit of visible gold (picture is worth a thousand words and all that), but never follow up with a drilling campaign showing lots of high grade gold.
Shanta, however, as you can see from the RNS (and previous ones), is not just showing visible gold, in multiple places, but more importantly showing high-grade intersections of gold almost everywhere they drill!
Willing to be corrected by anyone else if there's any drilling experts that want to correct that or explain it better.

Coincidence or not, news has also been released now gold is on the verge of a breakout bounce, though it probably needs to break the 1780 area (and then 1785 for a bit more confirmation) to convince more traders to pile in:

Good to see third rig now mobilised to WK....."there be gold in them there hills" would an understatement....almost closer to those bloomin' hills ARE gold.

I don't think there's been any II seller for a while, in fact quite the opposite, I think we've had II buyers in the background loading up whilst gold is on the pullback.

Furthermore Sustainable Capital are usually pretty prompt with their TR-1's too, so I see no evidence to support this, which this poster has posted several times, and never turns out to be true.

It might not seem like it, but I think the trading in this has been exceptionally strong, considering the pullback in gold.
From watching the trading, it would appear that the sub 16p stock is steadily running out, with the gold price steady.
Unless we see gold tanking much more - everything's looking pretty good imo.

Ideally it'd probably be with gold back in an uptrend. Having said that, it does appear like an II has been buying up all of the sells, without trying to push up the price. So this could move quicker than previously if gold does start to get a wriggle on, as the aussies would say, with many PI sellers having already done so.
EZ could well be sitting on potential news right now "preparing it for release" giving gold as long as possible to turn north.

Seems like everyone's at pains to tell me to invest anywhere bar here....

Some of these charty types had been calling for a drop to this level before next level up could happen so I suppose you could view it as a good thing if you believe them. I don't really believe in this chart BS...but when there are movements that defy rational thinking then charting is as valid explanation as any - and a lot of trading is done with it - so can be self fulfilling even if it is nonsense.
