I quite enjoyed the excursion into fantasy tax planning land as I am very sure GGP is going to give me a slice of that headache in future years. Didn't really pick up on any 'tone' on the board until the criticism rolled in. Oh well. I'm interested in discussion on how to keep the government's mitts off my GGP gains, and sensible diversification strategies for the future, and much later - how to pass on as much as possible to my kids.

Well, I'll scratch my grand plan to roll up to the 2030 Town Hall in my GGP-funded lambo, wearing a Del Boy coat, spraying champagne around. Seems like it won't be well received? :-)

Everyone's making great points. At the Town Hall, at the end of a brief chat with Shaun after I'd said how well things were going I said I was in [GGP] for my retirement and he said "Diversify", in a half-joking, half-serious way. I'd expect a man with a finance background to say that, and he's dead right and it was nice of him to advocate individuals protecting themselves too.

Right now though, Shaun and team are making it extremely hard to consider diversifying any of my GGP gains - can't do it! Though I certainly will at some point.

Agreed. I never like January targets for a few reasons. It's a short month. Everyone has the return to work blues. The focus is often on planning and getting set for the next year. None of this is conducive to getting a contract signed.

It was good to meet you Paddy and others for the very first time. I have a question about the continuity, and I'm not clear on what a reef looks like. When you say:

Does this mean that gold is present between Main Dome VSC/SLC and the West Dome deeps target (roughly a 2km stretch)? I.e. outside of the big yellow dashed circles in slide 1?

Be a realist. Putin doesn't want peace and he's driving, not TACO. There is zero chance of Putler proposing a compromise deal. Zelensky can only choose surrender (yeah, sure) or fight - he made clear his position nearly 4 years ago now. Ergo, peace ain't coming now. Fighting will likely go on for at least two years unless Putin dies or is replaced.

So, it's far more likely that war goes on for another few years. Remember, Putin doesn't care about the lives lost and the average Russian peasant, while suffering economically a bit, is used to outdoor toilets and potato vodka so a bit of queuing for bread and petrol is no big deal. For them, it's a tradition anyway and the Russians tradition - which is why they're content with an authoritarian dictator who still lives in the glory days of the USSR empire. The Moscow elites (the important people) remain unaffected anyway, and no-one in the Kremlin gives two hoots about anyone else.

So there we are. A shame, because I am balls deep and massively underwater, and may lose the lot. But at least my home isn't being 'liberated' by the Russian horde by turning it into rubble while raping my family - so I got that going for me.

You might already be aware but thought I'd mention that you should also factor into your calculations any annual increases in the dividend rate, that would reduce any reinvestment required to match inflation.

At the start a question was asked by the host to the attendees which was if those invested are in the share for the long term, please raise your hands. The show of hands was the clear majority in the room from what I could see - including me.

Storing actual gold was suggested by someone at the in-person event. I think Shaun's position was (paraphrasing it) basically that they already have a shed load of stored gold in the ground, just a different form.
