So, interesting AGM. There was one other retail investor there (won't say your name but you know who you are) and it was good to meet you. I was disappointed that Chef didn't turn up. I would have liked to have asked you a question or two in person.
The board and other employees were very welcoming and open to discussing any topic. I was pleased to be able to ask questions before the meeting started on operational matters (those that all here already know about). I'm not going to relay exact quotes here but what I will say is that I don't believe the transport cost will significantly impact the ASIC. The remaining work on getting trucks rolling is related only to administrative processes outside of Kodal control and nothing more. Should there be a transport problem, of which there is no current indication, then there are alternative trucking companies available that Kodal have spoken to.
Those in the room weren't privy to any major company news that wasn't covered in the presentation - though I did get a Kodal hat and Malian manufactured notebook - thanks to Mohammed, Country Manager, who flew in for the meeting. But sometimes you get a better sense of the level of confidence by seeing the 'whites of the eyes' .
My overall sense from all Kodal representatives that I spoke to was of quiet confidence that everything will come good. They're happy with the plant restart and improvements there. You'll have seen the new chart showing the targeted 10k tonnes per month. They seem confident about getting there.
The government relationship is strong. No issues there.
My other area of interest is military matters and the local security situation. I was very keen to find out more about what arrangements are in place to safeguard our interests, especially given the recent attack. From post-meeting conversations I am satisfied with what I heard about additional local security upgrades. Plus the local governor has a direct line to the President when needed. Obviously we need to bear in mind the national level too, but that's not in Kodal's control.
So overall, the Company remains at the whims of local bureaucracy and also the macro economic environment. However everything at Bougani is going well. Next catalysts to watch out for are the shipping of the spod, updated MRE, and any announcements on diversification next year.
