No, it's not ODX. The UK-RTC/ODX test is an antibody test, looking at who has been infected. The Avacta/Adeptrix test will be used to diagnose if someone is currently infected. It's looking to improve on the current PCR processes.

In addition, the UK-RTC test is POC. The Avacta/Adeptrix test is lab based.

They will potentially complement each other rather than being in direct competition.

The UK-RTC are having to negotiate with the Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC). I feel for them - I really do, as I am in the same position...

I have dealt with DHSC on and off for about 20 years. In the last 5-6 years it has been gutted, with many of its most experienced and competent civil servants taking early retirement or moving to other departments if they can. It is currently headed by one of the most incompetent teams of ministers I have ever known - and I'm not being party political: they are simply lazy and incompetent compared to their predecessors (of all political hues).

They're also not acting independently in the best interests of the public in relation to Covid19 but simply implementing orders coming from the Cabinet Office. Recent meetings have been like dealing with headless chickens, with demands and expectations changing constantly - sometimes in the same bloody sentence!

UK-RTC and ODX are in a strong place. Timetables will be subject to political whim and must therefore be taken as indicative, rather than written in stone. That said, so far Colin and the wider UK-RTC team have delivered and I am sure they will continue to do so - despite having to deal with DHSC.

I'm not sure we'll hear anything from Hattie Manc0ck for a while - Rishi Sunak seems to be making the running at the moment. I think we'll get an announcement about testing early next week.

As this is consortium developed, Omega is not required to CE mark separately.

At present we're waiting for the UK government contract to be finalised. Three things are likely to be delaying this:

- health is a devolved issue, so you have to get agreement from four different administrations;
- the DHSC/NHSE lawyers are busy with the Covid 19 national contract renegotiations (not going well);
- the Cabinet are busy trying to throw 'dead cats' around to distract from their various travails, including their ****-poor Covid performance and their rapey MPs...

An interesting chat with a friend this morning, whilst walking the dog. It appears that behind the scenes a number of people in the biotech world (which she's quite senior in) have expressed concerns about the government's decision to buy into two unvalidated tests - the LamPORE and the DnaNudge tests. She's predicting a rapid roll back from the government's initial bullishness around these tests, and she wouldn't be surprised if they were quietly dropped.
