No it isn't. You can spread Covid19 (e.g. through touch) even if you have antibodies.

There is also increasing evidence that you can be reinfected. Our organisation has a clinician who has tested positive and negative multiple times, as has my partner's hospital.

The test is CE marked. Therefore, it can be sold for professional use now. The consortium is already taking pre-orders for professional use.

Self-test use requires MHRA approval. This was not part of the original brief but was asked for by DHSC part way through development. This required the additional user testing undertaken at U of U.

The issue appears to be getting the DHSC to commit to a level that will confirm what spare capacity the consortium will have to sell direct to third parties for professional use, to third parties overseas and potentially direct to the public.

I would anticipate this is all tied in with the launch of the Track & Trace app later this week.

This is nothing to do with MHRA. This is DHSC delaying things.

No - this is Johnson using the scientists to bolster his position at the Covid Committee meeting this afternoon. He wants greater restrictions and Sunak doesn't. Johnson is vulnerable at the moment so this was about making it difficult to argue against further restrictions. For once, Johnson might actually be on the right side of a decision...

What was interesting about the presentation by Whitty and Vallance was what was not said...

The virus has been mutating rapidly. There's now 16 distinct mutations circulating in the UK, with different mutations affecting different areas. This is making developing a vaccine a difficult race against time (good news is the seasonal 'flu virus has remained relatively stable for the last few years, so the vaccine is being manufactured and rolled out).

There's also been an increase in the number of people showing clear reinfections.

Testing is going to become key to handling this.

The software and coding has to be created and tested, patients medical records will be updated to a central database. Layers upon layers of security protocols will have to be implemented, to protect patient medical information. Not an easy task and certainly not the same as scanning the barcode off a tin of beans."

Actually, technically it's not that difficult as they wouldn't be starting from scratch. NHS Digital has the MESH and Summary Care Records systems in place already. What is needed is the connection between the testing centres/app and MESH. That should be straighforward, as there is a established process to put that in palce.

However, we're working with the likes of SERCO and Sitel, and the egregious Dildo Harding, so they probably won't want to use the existing, established and robust systems but to charge the government ££££millions for a bespoke system that won't actually work...

Whitty and Valance will be presenting the scientific data. The Covid committee meets this afternoon to decide further steps. Johnson will make the announcement tomorrow.

I would expect the biggest impact on share price to be after the Bloviating Buffon's announcement tomorrow.

This week is a key week. I think Whitty and Valance will put the case for greater restrictions this morning, which will help Johnson at the Covid committee meeting this afternoon (Sunak doesn't want to lockdown pubs, cafes and restaurants). He'll announce the further restrictions tomorrow - but he'll throw in a bone, and I think that will be antibody testing. If you test positive for antibodies you'll be allowed greater freedoms. That'll be tied into a 'digital passport' via the NHS Track & Trace app, which is being launched nationally on Thursday.

Anyway, that's what I'd do if I was the government... but then I do have a clue what I'm doing...

Not necessarily. It could be one of the national central banks (e.g. the Bank of England or the Central Bank of Malta)

The national launch of the NHS Test & Trace app is scheduled for Thursday of this week (it's only available on a 'by invitation' basis at the moment). That will be a pivotal date.

No wonder they were keen to dampen down the dodgy figures given last week. They would detract from this news...
