An aside but going on in Western Aus14 Aug 2020 13:13
Australia’s largest miner BHP is facing a landmark shareholder push to put a moratorium on all mining activities that threaten to disturb or destroy culturally significant Aboriginal sites - this comes after a widespread community and condemnation of Rio Tinto’s destruction of 46,000 year old rock shelters at Juukan Gorge, Western Australia. If supported by BHP s/holders it could have significant impact on BHP’s growth plans in the Pilbara, but also all Miners.
WA’s Aboriginal Heritage Act is set to be scrapped and replaced by a new Act that will better protect Aboriginal heritage - it’s in its final stages of drafting and will be released soon for final consultation in Parliament. Do we have knowledge that Newcrest/GGP will be totally unaffected by this new Act as I’m not sure how to check this out?
