Taking into account stock market crashes, overvaluations, under-valuations, etc. the S&P 500 has still risen an average of 10% per annum over this past 100 years and then there are 2% to 3% in dividends on top of that. But good luck to all because I also cannot pass by on what sometimes looks like a buying opportunity, sometimes with negative results. I take nothing from MGN because I consider it one of my better investments. I dumped all of my LGEN to buy into this.

All of this conversation started when Moneybox mentioned his positive experience with JGGI. So far, JGGI is up almost 14% year to date (plus dividends) so good luck to him also.

Everything about them looks tired but we were in this position in 2022 and they managed to bounce back to around 220 so it is a case of fingers crossed. It looks like we are here for the long haul though.

Lostinthedark, No doubt, your logic is correct. I think the main difference is that your money is a lot safer in a S&P 500 ETF or something like JGGI and there is a proven track record there. Fiddling around with individual shares carries a risk (remember Enron?) as I am sure most of us have found out over the years and much more effort is required. Still, each to their own.

I can only agree with moneybox in that I think that by buying UK dividend shares we (I) are making life hard for ourselves. Something like JGGI is the way or an S&P 500 ETF. The S&P 500 has risen by more than 10% per annum over the past 100 years plus 2% to 3% in dividends. Also, safe as houses.

Signs of life this morning. This is the highest riser in my sad looking watch list.

Interesting video, thanks for posting. I am in the same position as zac, more or less, but let us hope that the worst days are behind us. If you look at the long term chart for this fund, i.e. 20 years, it can be seen that this fund has potential but not without some volatility along the way.

But if it breaks that, we are potentially up to 918.

Ex dividend date on Thursday so probably a pullback of about 40 pence.

Many are buying in for the dividend no doubt. Let's see where we are this time next week.

The blue chips have been falling for six days now which has probably not helped the share price. Best to wait and see until the wider market recovers in my opinion.
