Yes the potential is huge. Shells HPC is round 10% of the cloud and the cloud is growing. 80% of the time on an AI project is gathering and cleaning the data; structured data is much easier to do, though. Its all about clean dataframes, you can pull data from any number of sources into dataframes and join the dataframes. Most data has been residing in silos, those silos are now coming down. Some are now going back to old data and manually putting it in an AI friendly format like JSON. The graphical stuff is very heavy on CPU and again a standard format will be needed.

I think 5-10 years, studies are suggesting a 54% drop in jobs because of AI. Accounting will likely get standardized data so AI can take over most of it. Lawyers are also under threat, middle class jobs. It already is pretty good at coding, I can get a dashboard application with charts etc up in an hour to produce a professional looking visual representations of the data for decision making. Would have taken a month previously.

I very much doubt they have put their data on the cloud. Once it's on the cloud, massive computer power is available. Algorithms that have actually been around for decades can now be used, and new ones developed. There just wasn't the power to run complex maths, and the Oil industry has never had anything near. I would think multiple linear regression would have been the core for the structured data, and they would not have enough power to run unstructured data perhaps some basic support vector machines.

I'm studying a for Masters Degree in AI, the unsupervised models are coming along at an ever-increasing power. They will be a core tool. Any structured data would be like gold too.

ZYX098 - More targets are something I've pondered too. There is a lot of data on the north basin, AI will be a great tool to throw at all the data and identify targets; it's already outperforming Drs in CT and MRI scans for cancer, etc. It will find targets nobody even thought of.
