We are at the end of the reporting period, so the die is cast in relation to the historic part of January's trading update. No 'cliff edge ' so far it seems. The construction sector is fundamental to UK economic recovery, and Govt. and the whole construction industry will need to maintain the effort to keep plans on track moving into the new year.

Market conditions will stabilise during next year, and on a level playing field for larger UK merchants, Sig's position within it. On my reading, it is suggested that small firms will be unable to compete. This may provide better opportunity for Sig to fill in geographical gaps in its network by acquisition, as they intend.

CLC calls on government to support £525bn national retrofit programme

Scheme would see overhaul of UK’s 28 million homes over the next 20 years to improve energy efficiency
The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has called on the government to support a £525bn  retrofit programme to make the UK’s 28 million homes greener over the next two decades.
The group said that without a long-term national retrofit strategy to improve the energy efficiency of homes, which currently emit 20% of the UK’s carbon emissions, the government will be unable to meet its targets to achieve net zero by 2050.

Materials/ports update. The tone seems quite reassuring at the moment, when compared with the general press reporting. Govt are in consultation on construction materials issues, and in view of their job creation through construction, should do what they can to support the chain.

Bit of a picture here, which may push some revenue back in the new year until Sig can fulfil existing orders. But in common with competitors, any shortfalls should translate into cash as Sigs suppliers up their output and congestion eases at ports. Builders will have to work around it.
