Pleased to report Thorntons East Kilbride going like a fayre today. I got the last of the £8.99 choc celebration cakes on the shelves as my son's birthday cake. M & S looking light on footfall last few times I have been in and had a stall outside the store selling chocolates the cheek of it. I hope they had proper clearance to do this lol. ATB

Bonz opened the Thorntons centernary bauble to find 3 melts to eat - all gone bauble on tree. The kabin is a centenary thing too. Kids tried toffee flavoured hot choc and it was a winner. We've now tried original, mint, white and toffee but not sure about the chilli or raspberry and there might be others. If they could get the supermarkets to stalk these, I am sure sales would go well. The poster Mgb7 seems to be a fan of Thorntons hampers for Christmas gifts. You can't use shareholder discount vouchers with on line though. I have a wicker hamper for the kids' grandad which I am filling with thorntons and other stuff. Arrangements getting chopped and changed all the time. Schools in right up to the 23rd and I have decided to have the kids' grandparents here another day between Christmas and New Year when their will be less rushing around and more time to see the kids before dark sets in. If I kept the kids of school it would be marked down as an absence so not keen on that. Try and say a few words before the New Year if not I'll post you a you tube greeting. ATB

I am now the proud owner of a Thorntons chocolate or is it toffee ceramic kabin or cabin with the coin slot as well as a Thorntons centenary Christmas tree bauble which has a little treat inside. Still no news of the arrival of the new grand niece or nephew. I have bought the thorntons cuddly penguin suitable from birth with t e net of chocolate penguins for the adults to enjoy. The penguin can be pinned on to a pram hood and left to swing to provide some mental stimulation for the baby. I think there is a snowman and other cuddly toys at Thorntons but I will need to try another branch. I have a box of Thorntons Premiums for the couple but don't want to tempt Providence until the baby has safely arrived. I might have to head out to Mothercare on Christmas Eve or Boxing day though depending on when the baby puts in an appearance. Must be nearly Sid Madrid's birthday too. Skating and McDonalds birthday for the son and his friends is tomorrow. Then his late dad's parents here for lunch on his birthday. Last day of term and schools will not be dismissed until 2.30 so I am thinking of keeping him off school in the afternoon as his grandparents will want to drive home in daylight conditions and it is starting to get dark here by 3.30 depending on the weather conditions. The birthday party is ice skating followed by a MacDonalds meal for a few boys. Hope your preparations for your daughter's 21st are going well. I can't believe how near Christmas is now and I haven't written a single card and still have lots of people to get gifts for which is very unlike me. I used to buy stuff in the sales then forget where I had put it or forget which person had already received a cafetiere or whatever from me. My eldest late brother's elder son is due to become a father sometime around 17 December so quite special time for him and his wife. A lot of my nieces and nephews are only 12 years or so older than me and when their children arrive I stop getting gifts for the young adults PMO has got the go ahead to take over EO and I'll take the shares rather than the cash although I would need pmo to rise to £5.03 or something to breakeven. Looks like 2012 will be another year of averaging down for me. Not sure which one to start with. I started the process with Thorntons - the spirit is willing but the financial resources are weak right at the moment. Still all the Thorntons goodies to buy for the school staff. I tried to reserve my plot at the cemetery but they are not taking advance bookings any longer due to disputes about plots after marital breakdowns. God what a world.

Oh the Silverburn branch was going like a fayre today. I think they'll need to find a bigger unit there. Well something different at Chrismas isn't always a bad thing. Last year my sister was stranded in Australia due to the snow at the airports. My niece and her young family have tried out Australia twice now as a supposed permanent base and have now returned for good I think. That's great what you are doing for your mum- in- law. Good luck with whatever you decide. I got my main divi a couple of days ago and hardly noticed as it has been scaled down so drastically to only a token sum but that might actually be good for the future health of the company and will mean they can pay bigger divis in the future. You get shareholder discount vouchers which are better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick and good if you are into chocolate or buy a lot for gifts etc. As you'll know, lots of branches are being closed but franchises are springing up and the big supermarkets and other shops like newsagents, R S McColl are stocking Thorntons lines though obviously don't offer the same range of goods as in store. Corporate gifts are doing well and on line is also starting to make its mark and they do flowers, wedding favours etc as well as choc. Even in store, you'll see ice cream and strawberries, marshmallow,fudge choc fountain which are nice and cooling in the warm in door malls. Has it gone as low as it is going to , well I have thought that a few times. Bonz 1957 is the senior statesman and bored leader here with much longer service than me so he'll be able to offer you more of an insight. Good Luck

Just read back that post. The second palace should have read castle as in Edinburgh castle. Palaces and Castles eh very apt for her majesty. I bought a very expensive crown Chritmas tree decoration along with Alice, the King and Queen of Hearts, the Knave and a white rabbit as novelty tree decorations though I do have Thorntons chocolate Santas too. I am afraid I'd be ashamed to admit how much I spent on these decorations given all the poverty in the world. Just as well my solg came up trumps today and had a little flutter on AAT. I know your views on Aims and normally I try to steer clear too. Night

Sounds pretty heart rending. Are you having her to stay for a few days over Christmas or is that her in the home for good. I am stuffing 4 felt Advent calendars (snowman and santas) and 2 strings of little mini Christmas stockings numbered 1 to 24 with Thorntons little penguins and chocolate coins ready for the morning . I've had these felt Advent things for years but I still buy the big blue Thorntons Advent calendar and the smaller red ones as well. You get the penguins either in a string bag or the de-luxe version has a cuddly soft Christmas toy. After a poster came on to recommend the ginger cookies, I am hooked and the choc chip cookies are good too coated on one side. Not so keen on the Scicilian lemon cookies but it is a break away from chocolate. There was talk of a space in BHS Killie being taken over by Thorntons which would make sense given that Philip Green is also on an economy drive. However, talk is all it may be but it would certainly suit me for something very local to be maintained for me. Public sector unions on strike re. pensions and schools closed so we all went through to Edinburgh to celebrate St. Andrew's day. I went through by myself last year and the snow was lying very heavy on the eastern side of the country but today we actually sat outdoors for a drink. Licensing restrictions one place re. the kids. Holyrood Palace was open for free - usually around £15 for adult entry. The Scottish parliament building is just opposite and last year it was student protesters re. sympathy for Englsih and Welsh students' course fees and this year the council etc. workers were there with their banners. Some really quaint shops in that and surrounding streets, the church were Zara Philips married, a Childhood Museum and the Peoples Edinburgh (the latter two are free admission but were closed due to today's strike ). Went down to Princes Street and dined in Rose Street near the HMV Fopp. Below the palace there is the ice skating and Christmas fayre on just now. Went on the chair o planes very exhilirating flying through the air nearly as high as the Scott Monument and the top of the Jenners building. The big wheel is there too. Better dash and finish my Advent Calendar stuffing before bedtime. Speak soon.

I thought this plunge had something to do with me getting somebody to collect my iced Advent Calendars from Silverburn today after buying them there 3 weeks ago and the realisation that they were not to get returned to stock after all. I'm doing all I can to promote Thorntons and even had the school name iced on a few things for the chocolate tombola stall at the Christmas school fayre . Visited a franchise style store on Saturday - Newton Mearns - aromatic candles and chocolates being sold in the same store. The scent from the candles was a bit overpowering but a very wealthy part of the country so no doubt a very profitable outlet for Thorntons. This is ridiculous. The company is doing all kinds of cookies, cakes, tinned hot chocolate in various flavours which we need these supermarkets etc. to stock as well as the big mixed choc boxes! Get the new gift cards into all branches please Thorntons and stop neglecting the branches scheduled for closure in the New Year. I don't buy gift cards or gift vouchers with my share holder discount vouchers to get £20 of chocolate for £10 but you should be clamping down on Bonz 1957 and those shareholders perpetrating this penny pinching scam instead of preventing decent shareholders like me from getting the benefit of the 3 for 2 deals when I purchase using a shareholder discount voucher. In the branches you are keeping, can we see ice cream, strawberries and fountains in all braches in warm indoor malls and some promotion of on-line lines such as wedding favours, teddies, flowers - all the stuff you do on line that the general public might be unaware of. If you don't do this then some bunch of Yanks will come along and swoop this from right under your noses!

Ha b***** Ha re. the penny share jibe! It's over two weeks since I left my big blue boxed Advent Calendars in Silverburn for the names to be iced, they'll think I've snuffed it. Want to support the Kilmarnock and Irvine branches whilst I've still got the opportunity. School looking for a selection box or other christmas themed chocolate donation for the chocolate tombola so going into Killie today and will get the school staff their end of term gifts too. LOL I spent the best part of an afteroon on the phone and on the Tescoclubcard web site trying to sort it out. I even had to make my voice sound all shaky as they would probably refused to speak to me if I admitted that I wasn't the octogenarian but just acting on her behalf. There are 3 vouchers to be redeemed for Bella Italia or a day out Royal Yacht Britannia LOL still not sorted. I'll try today and see if the new address is being accepted yet for the vouchers to be send out. Come to think of the mail is getting redirected anyhow. Some of the rides at Alton Towers are not for folk our age let alone an 80s something. Good luck at the social services with the assessment x

I don't like having a share price in the thirties at all! Crikey Bonz I am going spare. Trying to register a Tesco clubcard account on line for an octogenarian who's had a change of address etc. £ Phone calls nofifying the new address and bother with exactness of details then I'm told Tesco have an old system and a new one and the new address has to be registered on the two systems but only certain staff have the training. The vouchers were set to go to the old address. Time for a drink. Too much time wasted on this. I am not amused.

Yeah I think your right bring forward the ice skating thing to mid December. My son is lucky usually on holiday from school for his birthday but I think he may be in on the morning this year which has only happened once before. His dad's parents come out here and I cook them a nice lunch. Let's hope the old boy is able to drive in daylight for a few years yet but I could always go and collect them. I'm near enough but far enough away from them to make life comfortable for me if you get my drift.. It was her birthday a couple of days ago so I will venture out with some Arran Aromatics, books and a Thorntons big red box of mixed this week. With a July birthday, I was always on holiday from school but it occurred during the Glasgow Fair fortnight so like your son my friends were never around. Garden wise nice and mild. Still got geraniums and roses in bloom. ATB

I obviously don't know the protocol. I thought the groom paid for the honeymoon and bride or her parents if alive (though they weren't for me) for everything else. I see thorntons are doing wedding favours on line. I have been reluctant to ever let my son have a birthday party as it is so close to Christmas that the turnout would be poor. In turn, that means that I have to be fair as a parent never thrown a birthday party for my daughter in Febraury. This year my son is talking about celebrating by taking a couple of friends ice skating so three maximum for the back of the car. Am I a cheapskate. LOL 21 eh key of the door still don't think of an 18th as being as big. ATB.

Re. our chat on pfd board today. I do beg your pardon, I remember Thorntons heading up briefly to over a pound around this time last year heading up to Christmas and the ex divi date. Still wasn't enough for me to make good back then. I have averaged down a bit this year but to no avail as yet. I understand the anticipated positive news re. Christmas etc.is to be going into next quarter's statement. Let's hope there's a lot of it.
