I've just discovered that pmo don't pay a dividend. I took it for granted too that they did when I read churchmouse posting with such conviction that they did on the EO board the day the takeover there was announced. Just goes to show that you should do your own research on these boards and not swallow any old codswallop you read. It's like that illbetabuck poster on iii trying to imply that companies prepare accounts inclusive of VAT and he's been on the tht iii board - a very dangerous poster that one DYOR. Was there any staff shareholders scheme here when you and your dad worked here. I still would like to see visits to the factory here getting pushed more and becoming more of a toursit attraction in the way that Cadbury World is in Bourneville has become.

Not too impressed. Been invested here a long time and have only had occasion to contact them twice in all that time - both recently. No acknowledgements or responses yet which compares a lot less favourably with another retailer I have in my pf. Come on investor relations, this company has a superb Customer Service department in comparison with other companies so time for you too to get your finger out and respond to a lowly personal investor.

You were saying last night that you could have sold CNR at 11p. You must get pretty irritated then at the wall to wall strong buy recommendations that have persisted on that bb for months on end and the share price is now back in 5s. Some people would call that ramping which at least you didn't find on this board and you even found something on here from khobar to lol about.

LOL Bonz - your post actually does illustrate that no matter how we try, we tend to be a bit partisan about the shares we are holding. However, I thought with the benefit of hindsight you could have found me a share that has risen steadily to drive home your point. That's the trouble with selling at a loss, you can move to something else that tanks too and compound your losses and you really can't blame somebody for choosing to average down if they get within a hair's breadth of breakeven. Remember too that people will opt for shares for different reasons. Some seek divis, some capital growth and some because they like what a company does. BT gave me poor service and I complained to the Ombudsman. They used underhand tactics to get me to switch from their anytime to evenings and weekends package, costing me a fortune. If the company does that to pensioners and other vulnerable groups then I have no intentions of investing in a company like that no matter what kind of profits they make or personal gain I can make. The line and internet were down quite often too. These bbs are of limited value as you know. There was one poster on the tesco board saying it would be £3.40 today and Buffet was about to wade in and there was a poster on jjb saying it was going bust last night or today. Coming back to Thorntons, well I do get a bit curious when the likes of Hendersons wade in heavily like they did yesterday but I honestly don't know if I see many opportunities to swing trade this share to get my breakeven down. The spread is usually wide. Maybe a case of cutting my losses here like I did at Cable and Wireless as I don't have too much invested. At least, it looks like I made the right decision to swop my EO for pmo shares but it is only with the benefit of hindsight that I can truly say that. No chocs yet from the survey people but I got several emails within seconds of completion from other companies which had obtained my details from the surveyors. The anniversay of my dad's death today - a Tuesday too so away to make a warming pot of Scotch broth. ATB

Did you notice how many shares Hendersons had snapped up before you posted at 22.29. Any thoughts on that please?

Seem to have snapped up a lot more shares today. This is the only institutional investor of HMV who has a buy in price at sub 10p. Let's hope they are investing and not letting the shares get shorted.

Anybody think it would be worth me doing the top up ie does anybody think 15p could be achieved and if so over what kind of timescale.

I was invested in CNR too and sold in the 7s in November. The RNS there on 31st December seems to have done nothing for the share price. If anything it has slumped back into the 5s. I think Bonz has posted here a few times that he has a very small paper holding here which would be considered minute by today's standards but perhaps a bigger holding at Tesco. I am waiting a few days before deciding on whether or not to go for a further top up here which at today's price would take my break even to 15p ish from a small buy in at over £1.20. However, I am very cautious as I don't want to end up with another hmv on my hands. Usually volumes here are minute but have been huge over the past few days. At the end of the day, you need to decide for yourself. Thomas Cook are due to deliver an update in February and post Christmas is the peak holiday booking season so might be worth researching that one a bit further but they have had their difficulties too of late. Tesco will be aware that they had a poor Christmas. Morrisons had a £25 voucher for a £50 pound spend in 6 of the 8 weeks before Christmas and Sainsbury's could attract a takeover bid from one of its main shareholder this year and they have just relaunched a super voucher offer in Scotland offering railtravel anywhere in Scotland for £19 return including a free child ticket for each adult ticket. Tesco will recover but I don't think things are going to be quite as easy as some people think. The Lidl and Aldies and at the luxury end Waitrose have truly started to have an impact on the big four supermarkets in Britain like it or not. Also many Tesco shareholders have been a bit disgusted with the Operations guy Noel Bob Robbins I think selling off some of his shares just before the recent huge slump. As Bonz says, it's a case of doing your own research.

not yet delivered by the survey company but they have contacted me citing human error as the cause and say if I pass on my phone no and address( which they cannot get from the survey data) to them then they will ensure I get the chocs I deserve for all my effort in completing the survey. Just as well I have my own box of Thorntons winter dessert gallery to open up in the meantime. The back of the box indicates that three new recipes have been introduced this season viz. treacle tart, spiced apple pie and black forest gateau. So as far as the survey goes, that's the last this bb needs to hear of it unless of course the continentals still don't arrive from the survey company. Loads of buying going on here and the price static.

LOL I'm a long-term holder and poster on this board and there is no attempt to deramp but I can well imagine why folk on these boards get suspicious. I can virtually guarantee that I'll still be posting and holding here when your interest has waned. No the survey was delivered on a Saturday afternoon and the promise was that the chocs would be delivered the next day. No mention of excluding Sundays and Royal Mail and couriers don't seem to be involved. The whole thing seems a bit iffy. A code was issued after completion of the survey and it had to be entered on a bag an left outside the front door by 9.00 a.m. this morning. Fortunately, there is no wind or rain here today. The only involvement Thorntons have in the whole thing is that it is allegedly their chocs that will be delivered here. Like I say I have contacted both the survey company and Thorntons about this matter and I will report back on here. Certainly not in my interests or Thorntons to get any flak coming there way from this. I realise Thorntons are not responsible but there's a whole nation full of moaners out there who might not see things that way. Glad I have drawn it to the company's attention. Most likely outcome is that some survey organiser will get their knuckles rapped for either slacking on the job and/or trying to keep the chocs for themselves.

Darkness descended here a few hours ago and there is no sign of my free chocs. If this survey thing is bringing in commercial sized orders for Thorntons then that's good news but I have contacted both the survey organisers and Thorntons about this matter. The promise was that the chocs would be here today and it doesn't look like they are going to arrive at this time of night. Not keen on the company's image being tarnished by people participating in a lengthy survey and then the chocs not arriving. I hope the survey organiser isn't munching into my bag of thorntons tonight! In any case, I have passed on the details of the survey people to Thorntons in case the whole thing turns out to be a lark.

I got a leaflet through the letterbox today advising me to log on to a survey and receive a free pack of Thorntons Continentals tomorrow morning. At first I thought this was connected with the Kilmarnock branch closing and it was to advertise on-line but the survey has nothing to do with Thorntons and it is just that some thorntons are being used as the lure to get people to take part in the survey. That said Thorntons does email me a lot about various in store and on-line offers which is more than can be said for some other retailers who have my details.

Did you treat yourself to a big box of Melts for your birthday again in December. The centenary baubles only had 3 melts inside but were inscribed with the year 2011 so bought a few to celebrate the birth of a new born in the family just before Christmas on the same day as my own son. That postie of yours get him or her the Thorntons Christmas Spirits this year Whisky Truffle, Marc de Champagne, Cherry in Liqueur and Rum Truffle though I better get something else for the school bus driver LOL. Come on the men reading this, show your romantic side with St. Valentines Day only a matter of weeks away. Get in store or on line. Thorntons on line do flowers as well as choccies, some bottles of refreshing libations and cuddly toys. This is a leap year fellas when we ladies are allowed to do the proposing - lol you might even get your wedding favours at thorntons on line.

Some branches particularly those in large warm indoor malls, in train stations etc. do quite well selling ice cream, stawberries and choc sauce, choc fountain with fudge marshmallow. If you look around malls you can see the number of people sitting eating Thorntons products. The business is in a period of transition for sure. However, people need to read that RNS again. Total sales were UP and commercial, direct and on-line sales are showing good growth. Could be tempted to buy some more if double figures can be maintained.

Ask your broker whether you hold in paper form or through a nominee account. The discount vouchers are issued in October and valid for a year. Not sure if you will have to wait till this October for a batch but worth asking anyway.
