Absolutely, the way this one was taken down to 10p just after Christmas then up so dramatically and quickly then back down times two or three doesn't exactly fill me with confidence either and leaves a bad taste in the mouth to be honest - and that spread is always ridiculous. Somebody is making - really big money here and it's not me or you by the sounds of it. Another poster thought I was Netley yesterday lol. Re. the accounts on lse, I never got any explanation but a bit ridiculous these days when women aren't chattels that the current King Elvis and I who have separate trading accounts and, in the main, different shares can't have separate lse accounts. Should have added to my post last night that I have heard my late husband's parents talk about their visits to the Thorntons cafe in the above retail outlet park. Have no idea if the cafe is run in house by Thorntons and no idea if the prices are designer ones or discounted ones - I'll need to make a visit to it myself.

No I've not seen any thorntons outlet stores in my neck of the woods but I have been to the Cadbury's outlet store in Gretna Green and visited Cadbury World in Bournville. I used the last of my shareholder discount vouchers today to buy two big Benji Bunnys for £10 iced with my kids' names on them. I usually go for the smaller bunnys, white lambs and chicks but what the heck. Had a nice Marc de champagne mini egg myself tonight and they have mini eggs with caramel and praline. Must see if the voucher Bonz posted is still valid as I could certainly eat another of those Marc de champagne mini eggs.

what about the surprises the Easter bunny might bring ....

were sold out at a branch of Sainsburys so far in advance of Easter then it could have been that they were being sold cheaper in there than in the Thorntons branches - good or bad thing ? Not selling eggs right up to Easter limited stock or sold out - again good or bad. Hope these supermarkets were shifting some boxes for Mothers Day.

Thanks for that and noting your point about people were physically carrying goods to the no doubt small counter. Maybe a couple of baskets wouldn't go amiss as it can be hard to carry a few easter eggs and lollipops. Sometimes I have limited my own buying in there as it can be tricky to get it all to the counter without some falling and not ideal if there are folk at the counter ahead of you.

Okay - since I am such an avid Thorntons shopper (I even splashed out £100 for a limited edition wooden boxed centernary selection of Thorntons) I am going to buy back in. Don't worry, I wont blame either of you if it doesn't make a Phoenix like rise. I just like to support UK companies with long and distinguished traditions and don't like it when they get a hard time during recessions. Good Luck All

From my shopping trip today, the story seems to be that all the Easter eggs at 150g to 160g are inidvidually priced at £3.50 in a thorntons store. An offer which seeminly ends today is buy one get one free on an undecorated egg in plain, milk or white. The eggs with the motif of a bunny, butterly or football are buy 2 for £5 which is also the deal in Debenhams. The reason I think I was charged £7.00 on Sunday was that I took a butterly egg and a plain white one. So no mix and match seemingly possible. Thorntons seems to be headed in the same direction as Marks and Spences with these complicated offers. M & S once had a ridiculous 3 for 2 deal of festive patterned kitchen towels and toilet rolls which included the penguin on skates design but not the reindeer or something equally ridiculous. Anyhow, I snapped up a buy one get one free milk choc egg today along with some other items and qualifed for another £3 off with my coupon which is valid till 12th March (£3 off a £10 spend for all customers). The personalised icing is now available in pink, blue and green (and maybe other colours) as well as white now. But the best bit of news is that my favourite redundant store manager is going to be lucky enough to get a few hours work a week as an assistant in another branch. And the Manager of the branch I visited today also held a few shares and was very pleasant..

LOL Funny you should mention tesco as I think you hold shares in them. Got to be honest here and say that ALL the supermarkets are the dearest places out for greetings cards and their seletion is not too hot. I suppose some one stop shoppers do get everything in a supermarket in one fell swoop but I'm going through a phase of rediscovering what bread and cakes taste like from a bakers shop, meat in a butchers and fruit and veg from a greengrocer. I would buy newspapers from a supermarket but a greetings card in my trolley would like as not get all squashed or ruined with stuff that had been in the deep freezer or fridges. If I did get it to the checkout in mint condition, I would not pack it right and it would end up all crushed.

This may sound a bit Scrooge like but, within my immediate family,I have been recycling my greetings cards for years once I've found ones that have a nice image and say what I want them to say. My late husband used to say it was worth paying more for a card in Clinton because most of Bidrthday's cards had a tedddy, bunny or some other animal caricature image on them lol. which perhaps men don't like. I first bought into thorntons nearly two years ago and there was very little in the way of trading opportunities in the majority of that time but in the past few months that has changed. I would agree with you that Thorntons's closure of 180 branches mean that it will never be the retailer it once was but it is stil a manufacuter and has captured more of the choc market albeit on slimmer margins via franchises, on-line and corporate sales to the supermarkets etc. I think we have said on this bb before that Clintons and thorntons should share retail space in the bigger premises. I wouldn't want to buy cards on line as my postman would probably bend them before I had even got round to posting them on lol Good night all.

A lot of things were down today though. I might buy back in but there seems to be a lot of confusing signals right at the minute. For instance what price did this finish up at today 20.75 or 22.13! What did you read in that annual report that caught your eye. Debt down?

I am going to a branch tomorrow lol - not saying which one - secret shopper lol. I feel a bit sorry for the staff if they are having to explain to the public why some Thorntons products are cheaper in other shops! The staff must all be worried that theirs is the next branch to go. Still things in a Thorntons store though that you can't get elsewhere. I bought a bar of Turkish Delight the other day intended for a diabetic by mistake. Still tasted good. Lady on the coookery course with me has been bringing in her own home made treats for the tea break for 8 or 9 of us - all the ingredients paid for by her and all on her own time. I have bought her a Thorntons box by way of a thank you to present to her at the end of the course. She is finishing off whisky truffles at home as the mixture wouldn't set in the time we had available during the class. ATB

So much for rewarding shareholder loyalty Thorntons! As a general member of the public, I have a £3 discount voucher off a £10 spend which can be used several times up until mid March and is valid with goods on special offer. Compare that alongside the £2.50 off a £10 spend shareholder discount voucher valid for a single use up until October but not on goods already on special offer. The £5 discount voucher inside the limited edition 530 g boxes of classics cannot be used to buy another box of the limited edition classics but only on a standard box of classics of 530g or more in weight which is fair enough I suppose. Problem is standard boxes of the 530g seem to have been taken off the shelves right at the minute! Limited edition classic 530g box is being dubbed half price at £6.99 (if it's a limited edition, how can we truly say it is half price!!!!). Well done to the sales assistant/manager on Sunday who explained to me that the 630g of standards classics was £12.99 but that the limited edition 530g box was half it's "normal" price and it contained a few limited edition flavours not available in the standard box. Wonder if they were liquid gold flavour! Good luck though to the lady in question as she held a few shares and clearly liked to deal with challenging customers but what happened to the days when customers were always right. In fact, this spirited lady was rather stroppy with choppy lol. Didn't do too well with my Easter eggs either. Two of the 150g eggs for £7.00 - they are 3 for 2 on-line and please somebody tell me that the ones that are 2 for £5 in Debenhams are lighter ones!

Decided (since I'm worth it) to open up a box of the limited edition classics for myself and have the £5 off voucher for another box. There are no strings attached to the offer except that £5 voucher has to be used on a box Classics of 520 grams or more. Just taken out all the almond marzipans for myself. ATB.
