🧪 The Scientific Basis: Extracting Helium from Formation Water2 Aug 2025 14:34
Yes, the share price is low. Sentiment is shaken. But helium doesn’t care about sentiment, it follows physics. And so far, the science has been right.
1. Helium Generation and Solubility
Helium is created deep underground through the natural radioactive decay of uranium and thorium. Over millions of years, it builds up in two key forms:
• Trapped as free gas in reservoirs,
• Or dissolved in formation water under high pressure.
“Helium may accumulate in groundwater systems as a result of in situ generation and migration… where it can exist dissolved in saline formation waters under pressure.”
— Ballentine & Sherwood Lollar, Nature (2002)
2. Degassing at Surface
Once that helium-rich water is brought to surface, the pressure drops, and just like opening a shaken can of Coke, the dissolved helium fizzes out.
“When pressure is reduced, helium comes out of solution, forming a gas phase.”
— Barry et al., Chemical Geology (2019)
3. Subsurface Lifting via ESPs
Enter Helium One. With no free gas traps at surface, the company is using an Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) to bring helium-rich water up from depth. This method is widely used in oil and geothermal fields, it’s proven technology, just applied to helium for the first time.
“Subsurface pump systems are routinely used to lift fluid-rich reservoirs to surface for degassing or separation.”
— Gupta & Bobra, SPE (2001)
What Makes This Different?
This is the first real-world test of this method, not a theory, not a model, a field-scale proof. And the groundwork is solid:
✔️ Peer-reviewed science backs the system.
✔️ Helium is already confirmed in the reservoir.
✔️ The ESP incoming.
Now it’s about confirming flow, and if helium comes up, even modestly, Helium One moves from explorer to potential producer.
Yes, the Share Price Is Low, That’s the Setup.
The market has priced in risk and dilution but not reward. When this works, and it doesn’t need to be perfect, the re-rating could be sharp. This is the kind of inflection point where patience meets opportunity.
Follow the science. Trust the method. The market may be late, but we don’t have to be.
