So half of our energy is renewables, and half isn't. Why, you might ask? Because it isn't always sunny or windy, even a simpleton understands this. So we need other energy sources and their infrastructure on standby to step in and provide reliable, non-intermittent energy that we need 24/7
That of course adds to the cost of the already ludicrously high green energy prices leaving the completely hamstrung and unable to compete in any kind of manufacturing. The rest of the world merrily ploughs on with prosperous, cheap energy whilst we slide into being a third world shyte hole.
Have a look at global coal, oil and gas use. It is increasing rapidly. Nobody else gives a monkey's chuff.
