High Speed rail in a country as small as the UK is utterly pointless. Sure it works in places like France where major cities are many hundreds of miles apart and the time savings make a cost/benefit analysis somewhere near viable.

But in the UK where London and Manchester are 163 miles apart, there is absolutely nothing to be gained by a High Speed rail network. Particularly when neither are actually connected and it then hands of to regional services and associated delays to complete the journey
