Fleccy its not sellers regret. It's sellers incomprehension. I dont understand why the BT share price rises on mediocre results. Its like me going to my boss for a pay rise because i "intend" to hit my targets for the next 5 years. This is what BT is asking the investment community to do, even as they shrink. I dont want to invest in that . I don't trust whats in store. I dont think the fibre rollout is capable of doing anything other than churning existing revenues with gradual market deterioration from competition. There is nothing in todays figures other than bad news offset by optimistic projections

This morning's results are poor. Lower revenue, profut even lower and debt up. All the good news about fibre rollout isnt really good. Most revenue from fibre rollout is simply a swap from legacy services. Theres a projection about cashflow in a comment below, but thats not real. That's a projection. The BT SP rise is based on fairy dust. I doubt it will survive the week

A bad H2 could send the shares down to £1.30. Catch a falling knife. And if revenues are shrinking and costs are rising, the dividend will come under pressure. I don't think any BT shareholder should like the noises coming from them. Whiny, pessimistic, belt tightening with broker downgrades appearing

This debate over how quickly BT can modernise is only addressing half of issue. Thr other half, their sales and current growth rate (or decline rate), will be evident in the H1 results coming soon. If these are weak, and if Rachel Reeves' budget is unfriendly, then what for the SP, which has already sagged

AI suggests smaller, newer companies reinvest in exploration, and it's only the bigger, more diversified companies that pay dividends, so I guess this is a share to sell one day.

Gingy I agree there are risks, at least of delays, but this mine is a strategic asset for the UK, and there would have to be a catastrophic setback to stop this from opening. I reckon the SP will rise before opening, as it gets closer to doing so without mishap. It's a long tedious wait though. I'd like to buy more but it ties up my money for three more years minimum. Sitting on 200k just now, contemplating 220k..

BT Openreach would be nationalised and BT retail would be taken over. Well, that's as plausible as any other idea. My question is this: why would anyone invest their money on blind speculation about some lucky windfall? Surely the consideration should be whether BT is doing well as a business right now and how credible is their strategy?

The obvious reason for the drop is that there was no obvious reason for the rise.

The broker downgraded the price target because they see no room for growth in the broadband market. Not only is BT's whole business at the mercy of the UK economy, but also there are competitive threats from alternative technologies, from one or two major rivals and from some altnets. All I hear in this forum is how BT can crush the altnets and all will be well. BT just has to turn up and the money will flow in. That's not true. It's misleading. BT has no real chance of growth, it's all on efficiency. That makes BT a utility. A commodity. OK defensive stock at £1.50 with reasonable dividends. But if people here think the share price is going to keep on rising they must be smoking something.
