I've had a look on the Indian Stock Exchange (https://www.bseindia.com/stock-share-price/bharti-airtel-ltd/bhartiartl/532454) and can see 5 documents released so far this afternoon, but can't find any reference to the possible tender offer for AAF...

Having watched the results presentation I think management are doing a great job under very challenging circumstances.

Reasons for optimism for me are:

- Grandstand pub conversions are very popular and will likely do very well during World Cup this summer, but also generally (no only for big events - ppl love big screens)

- ⁠Their small improvements in profit in H1 should increase in H2 as they are pausing their refurbs now for this financial year (so less drag on costs in H2)

- ⁠They’re using technology well to reduce staff costs and increase turnover (I see this as a moat of sorts as smaller pubs unlikely to be able to do this as well)

- ⁠Next few years will see hundreds more refurbs to Grandstand, 2-door pubs and Woodies, which will drive more profit

- They’re hedged for elec this year and gas until end of next year, so some cost control there

- NAV is 128p per share

I’m not saying it’s going to be plain sailing from here, but I do think looking 3 to 5 years out this has excellent potential for multi-bagging.

So I suppose that, yes, they see great value in the shares at current prices, and they realise that once they (partially) float Mobile Money, this will act as a catalyst for the overall AAF share price, so soon after acquiring the additional stake they hope that the shares will rerate again. It’s a bold move!

Yes my guess is this is just delayed reaction to Friday’s results. Maybe Deutsche or similar have sent a note to their clients with the tip, I think this happened last year with Airtel.

I don’t have a target price for this one, I suspect it could keep rising for many more years.

Good article about AAF in here. The scale of the Africa telco opportunity is tremendous! And this is an established company now, with proven results… can’t really see why anyone wouldn’t invest here, unless you think Africa in general is going to decline!?

I had missed the bit at the end of the update regarding Airtel Money IPO delay and margin pressure due to Middle East… always read the small print! Well this is still a strong buy for me.

I agree, and we see this a lot with recoveries tbf, the company gives what looks to most ppl like a dull “in line with expectations” update, but the hidden gold dust is that the share price is still stuck in the past, pricing in increasing risk, fear and impatience. But eventually, always much later than you’d expect (!) the market will catch up with reality in a sudden burst of exuberance! My guess is that will happen at some point in the next 12 to 18 months for Vanquis. Imho
