Its going to be a rollercoaster all the way back up I'm afraid!

No particular reason for the drop that im aware of, the share price just tends to fall back after a big rise. My guess is for support at £2

Saga has finally shown up this week in the Investors Chronicle FTSE All-Share 1-year risers list, and also the 1-week risers list. Lovely to see, and long may it continue to pop up there over the next few years!

Indeed, an absolutely stunning week! I'm sure it will continue to be a rollercoaster but one that's generally going up now :)

RetiredBanker, any particular reasons for your doubts, given everything seems to be pointing north now?

My only concern in the short term is another chunk of goodwill will be written down, otherwise everything seems to be amazing and can't see why this wouldn't go to £6+ within 2 years as sentiment grows, the good news spreads and share price momentum builds.

Why is the SP so low?

Because the market - understandably - doesn't trust Saga again - yet! Debt is still high, losses are still recent, there is more goodwill that *could* be written down. Plus its still under the radar for most investors. The Saga saga keeps on Sagaring...

This is just what happens with this share, it flails around over the summer, then shoots up in winter once the cash is confirmed. Has happened for the last 2 years anyway. Get used to it!

Lejjb, I think more likely there just isn't that much to say and most investors are not excited about pubs right now. But maybe the TU tomorrow will raise some eyebrows. Fingers crossed!

I agree its a possibility (it is Saga afterall), but I'd say there's a low chance of a further writdown of goodwill this year given the comments in the annual report and recent TU, the insurance biz is on track for now.

Also, they wouldn't be allowed to just decide to write down more goodwill to suit Roger's needs, there would need to be a genuine impairment, which currently isn't.

Rogue, what makes you think there will be another goodwill writedown this year?

In other news, has anyone else looked at Ocado as a recovery play? I've dipped my toe in but certainly nowhere near as confident as I am with Saga! Lots of people are very bullish on the Ocado BB but that's not always a good sign ;)

It is snail mail, and it is mostly for Holidays, some Cruises too. Lots of offers "book by this Friday to not miss out" sort of messages.

I've been getting a LOT of direct marketing mail from Saga recently, like once a week for several weeks. I appreciate they're giving Holidays a big push, but this volume of post is probably counter-prodictive given the cost and the pester factor.

Thoughts, anyone?

I too am highly encouraged by Alnwick's success with RR., and don't see any problem with letting people know the magnitude of wins / losses, as long as you don't go on and on about it!
