But who’s going to do this style of delivery? I’ve looked into it and it’s not worth it in my view.
He does forget the obvious; surely RM will lease the vehicles?
Treadingcarefully@ I’m going off all the previous RNSs about the DFS due by year end.
Well, there’s obviously an RNS due; it IS the year end.
OliGarch@ probably not. We’ll have to see what the next ballot tells us. And talking of ballots I always think they’re worded to get a yes answer; of course everyone’s prepared to strike. It should ask: do you think we should strike? In my view I don’t think striking has helped at all. It was ok in the old days when it was govt owned; they eventually caved in. BWDIK.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they actually offered less next time, seeing as they’ve been losing more business.
casperdog, have you been a postman? I suspect not. It’s quite a hard job nowadays and fiddly. You’re forever scanning items, even piddly little packets from China. 50% of people aren’t in to accept packets and we weren’t (when I was working) allowed to doorstop. Some houses you’d knock three times, push a notice left through the door and they’d suddenly appear which was very frustrating. Plus you have to deliver in all weathers, boiling hot days when you’d only get the occasional customer give you a drink to freezing snowy days when you’d be traipsing up peoples uncleared (of snow) slippery paths. It used to be easy in the days of 2 deliveries when you had just one satchel of mail including maybe ten packets and you’d be out delivering before people went to work, but nowadays you have eight or more satchels and hundreds of packets. I don’t quite know how posties can be more efficient.
Do we get a juicy special dividend?
Well said Jeff. I’m retired now but I can remember the public thinking I just had one satchel of mail to deliver. I sometimes showed them the contents of my van at the start of the walk and they were amazed. Used to take me about 4 hours, it’s probably more nowadays.
Merry Xmas Red. I don’t have a Porsche anymore as I’m a poor pensioner nowadays. I have a 6 year old Fiesta!
Darbo, there’s no clue to my Porsche love on FB just my name.
Haha, some halfwit has said “Can’t someone get rid of Kretinsky?”
AngerSharkz I only suggested posties start buying shares to combat a possible Kretinsky takeover. One of the only requirements for being a Postie is the ability to read. One commentator didn’t understand that DK has bought an EXTRA 1% of the company. I despair sometimes and hope they see the errors of striking soon; it isn’t working!
The people in charge of the CWU FB page don’t like my comments, they’ve disappeared!
Teddy100, I don’t think DK is thinking your way with him buying £190m worth…
It looks like DK has upped his stake.
Yes Jimmy, I’ve suggested on FB that posties buy shares. If they all bought around 4000 they’d have over 50% of the company (I think). But, talking to posties about shares if quite difficult sometimes; when we went public in 2013 I told all my fellow workers to fill their boots ( we were all guaranteed £10,000 worth). Only myself and the boss did so. And regarding the free shares we were given (913 for full timers) there were nearly 400 who refused them!
The posties should be careful. Management might start thinking if they can afford to strike for two days then a three day week might suffice in future?……
I actually think Xmas was invented by shopkeepers and the post office….
Wow, where’s your walk, Newdealz?
