The one golden lining in the share drop we have endured over the last couple of weeks is that many institutions have bought in at higher than today’s price. I cannot see that they would be interested in a buyout even at a small premium to the present price. With the votes needed to obtain a deal there is not a chance that they could meet those numbers with PI’s also voting against. Sit tight!

Many of us had a jolt this week with the disappointing RNS. We probably looked at our portfolios and took a deep breath (I know I did). But maybe we should put a value on the paper loss taken by Gervaise. With 74 million reasons to be upset, he still is in the bullish camp.
Maybe if he offloads substantial stock in the short term we maybe should review our thoughts but until then I am sticking to the long term plan. GLA

Sorry to remain off subject. When I retired in 2007 I took cash out of my DB pension. At that time I was issued a certificate showing the used portion of my tax free allowance. Back in 2007 the cash drawdown was based on 1.6 million. Even with the reduction to just over 1 million today II still reserve the right to the tax free balance based on my retirement date. ie 1..6m That may be relevant to some on here who appear to be of similar age.

Take a look at Hargreaves Lansdown. I have Junior ISA’s for my grandchildren with them and the process is very straightforward. Fees seem reasonable provided you are not buying or selling to often. Not saying they the best out there, others may have a different view but they have met my needs for a number of years

Definitely need Scally results to move the SP on from present level. Next few days could see us under pressure. Would love to be wrong but often is the way after results.

With this excellent RNS I notice that the premarket in France is showing about 3% down on Friday close. Hopefully this will rectify as the day goes on ,

Had dealings with this problem a while ago. At that time the multiple used was 20x pension plus further amounts if a tax free lump sum was taken. Notice that you slipped in an extra zero into the allowance as should read 1073100. Good luck with it, but it is a problem many people wish they had. Regards POM

Put me down for 27.75. Would have looked for more but with markets tanking everywhere, if the results are good there will be much profit taking.
Some short term investors will take their profits and hope to buy into stocks that have been hammered the past few days.

If we really believe that the mms are collecting shares again on behalf of one or more substantial buyers, should we be offering our shares for sale overnight at an inflated price. The price estimated to be lower than that likely to be offered by the institutions that accumulate for this purpose. Only risk being a 7.00am RNS the following morning that causes a sky rocketing price. Any thoughts?

Hi marmaris, as others have stated you can definitely take the 25% cash and leave the balance in shares. As I am sure you are aware the balance and any further increase in the value of your shares will be fully taxable

Before you pay down your mortgage in full do check out that there are no penalty clauses for early redemption. I know some lenders had these in place a few years back. I can tell you that paying that last instalment is a wonderful!
