Sorry missed your post TL. I’m not sure how it works. I can’t remember who had previously posted parliamentary questions. Does anyone have any info on how the submissions / timing of responses work? Do all have to be answered - even if the responses are useless?

Isn’t the market opening up over there a good thing? Prices look healthy and similarly to here, a free market would allow affidx to be directly compared in terms of performance. I’m sure they’d be delighted to sell at those prices given downward pressures due to Chinese tat everywhere else

Amber list rules require travellers to take an antigen lateral flow device within 3 days of returning back in the UK, but categorically state this cannot be the “NHS” test (ie Innova, Orient Gene). Is the government concerned that these tests aren’t fit for that purpose? If not, why won’t they allow them to be used?
Is the government aware that the so-called “rigorous” test validation at Porton Down was not fit for purpose, and actually disadvantaged UK-developed tests (from Avacta and Mologic) that have been independently verified in real-world use cases as two of the top ten antigen LFTs in the world?
The govt have suggested that all tests in use having been rigorously tested at Porton Down. However, the Porton Down protocols did not follow the manufacturers’ Instructions For Use, and the use of spiked, pig mucin and frozen samples did not simulate the live use cases. Such that high performing tests such as Avacta and Mologic tests failed the assessment. Can the government confirm that the previous “failure” of these tests in the Porton Down process will not cause these tests to be discounted in future, and that the new process will enable them to be validated according to manufacturers’ Instructions For Use, with appropriate clinical human samples (not synthetic positives) that have not been frozen and thawed
Will there be any protections in place to stop individuals who are involved in the purchase of tests from joining the affected companies as executives or consultants now and in the future to safe guard against corruption? What checks are performed as standard when dealing with sums of money this large?

In a nutshell, the govt have protocols in place that have blocked British companies, they have procured tests that are not fit for purpose (possibly using private emails) and given them exemptions for home use and now exemptions from future legislation. These actions are risking lives. As I mentioned and you have acknowledged, Neale Hanvey is continuing to try and pressure the govt on this and if these issues can be raised by all Labour MPs I would hope you'd gain some traction. Tory MPs have been responding with standard wording that does not address the issues such as the corruption related to the huge sums of money, the performance of the tests, the lack of support for British Diagnostics that are world leading and ultimately the safety of the population."

Rachel had asked for some potential parliamentary questions. I have compiled the below:
Why are we importing Chinese made tests in great quantity when there are better British made alternatives available from companies such as Avacta and Mologic.
The PM says he is supporting British industry. In light of 1 above what support to great British diagnostic companies is he giving exactly?
Regarding support to the industry, Abingdon are still awaiting payment for the supply of antibody tests, how is refusing to pay for delivered tests supporting British Industry?
Is the gov willing to publish the Ct levels from their validation studies? With the vaccine rollout, the virus will not shed in the same quantity, so the tests that are used need to be more effective and those being procured are likely to be completely ineffective
Can the govt confirm with published studies the ability of their procured tests to pick up the delta variant?
Why have the govt 'stonewalled' Mologic who have publicly stated they are considering legal action?
Why did the government continue using Innova tests when this info was made available to SAGE "The Liverpool Health Protection Board decided yesterday to pause plans to use Innova Lateral Flow SARS-COV-2 Antigen tests (LFT) in test-to-enable visitor access to care home settings due to the accuracy statistics presented below, derived from data received in the past 24h from DHSC who have been running a Quality Assurance programme"

Thanks for the additions, I’ll try to draft something tomorrow. I’ll try to focus on forward looking stuff. The legislation has passed. I’m not sure what the red flag was, but I’ll try and find out. I’d hope they wouldn’t be stupid enough to continue with innova, but they’ve done it before…. Orient Gene and other Chinese NP tests shouldn’t be to sneak in either.

The legislation closes down the PD freezer problems, so at least we can look forward to a fairer playing field hopefully where the obvious superior performance will shine through. The issue with talking about the £3bn is that it’s gone, it’s banked, the govt will just spout nonsense, delete private messages and trails of brown envelopes so it feels it’s a dead end to push on that front. Nice for some political point scoring, but I don’t care about that, I’m more interested in the best British tests being procured and used widely.

Yes, I didn't receive a response and so I sent a follow up email saying exactly that - that I was hugely disappointed that they haven't jumped at the chance at finally providing some opposition. That might have encouraged a response, but to be fair she said she had tried getting in touch so I'm guessing email filters intervened. More MPs need to take the lead of Neale Hanvey and batter the govt constantly on this.

I've previous despaired that my local Labour MP didn't respond to the email I sent inquiring about the new legislation and the free pass being given to Innova and others. The email I sent was the template we had on here (many thanks), with the addition of raising the same concerns for Healgen and highlighting AffiDx performance in identifying the infectious as a green light test.

Some credit is finally due. Today I received a written copy of a letter that she has sent to Sajid Javid where she reiterated the main points from the email/attached links (including the FDA throw them in the trash quote) and has asked him for an urgent response to these Qs:

- Confirm that testing on the Innova tests carried out in accordance with the DHSCs Instructions For Use have taken place?
- Confirm the revised sensitivity rating achieved by the Innova tests when the tests were carried out in accordance with revised DHSC IFU?
- If this testing has not been carried out, please can you confirm what plans you have in place to carry out this testing and when it is due to take place?

She closes her letter by asking:

- Please can you confirm why the government is continuing to invest in Innova Tests for community testing, when there is an opportunity to support British business whilst also providing the community with better quality tests that have been specifically designed for this type of testing?

Obviously, no doubt the govt will spew out the usual dismissive bile, but every little helps.

She's has also forwarded on my email to Sajid and asked me if I have any thoughts on any parliamentary questions that should be raised. Fire away with your ideas - the more the merrier and I'll draft them up and get them sent across....

She noted that whilst the legislation was approved, red flags were raised by the Regulatory Committee and that revisions are due.

Demand for an excellent test that detects Delta is obvious. Every day you hear of more demand for testing. Yesterday they said students would be tested twice weekly so that population can be added. It’s a global challenge and as every country reaches similar vaccination %s, they’ll also turn to testing as winter approaches.

They can take their time on this one for me. They’re recruiting and it’ll take as long as it needs. It starts getting a bit crude to be demanding updates when people are having to make exceptionally difficult decisions during an awful time in their lives. I know we’re invested in an oncology business but there’s no rushing this stuff

I agree with your numbers and logic hanoihank. That’s why the fundraise, whilst it stung at the time, was so crucial. The upfront payment that would ordinarily be received is already in the bank to fund the trial. Once proven, future deals would be in the ballpark of tens of millions upfront. As you’ve suggested, this would cause some big players to have a long hard think about bidding.

It’s plain simple good old fashioned common sense to reduce prevalence. We’re on track to become a breeding ground for new variants otherwise. Get everyone using AffiDx regularly and give adequate support for isolation. Test, test, FFS test.
