Tsunami of cancer10 Feb 2021 16:40
This is my 40th year working in NHS Pathology and concur that these lockdowns, and fear of Covid generally, will have a terrible effect on early cancer diagnosis. So we are saving some lives at the cost of other lives. My brother in law passed a few months ago from the dreaded prostate cancer at just 66, just 18 months from first diagnosis. It was hell for my sister (and of course the poor chap). Cancelled appointments, operations and treatments will have a very bad effect. I feel now that with most of the vulnerable population vaccinated it's time to 'take our chances', release the lockdown with caution but do it quickly. People can still socially distance, wear masks etc but life must return to normal. We're grown ups and have been given enough information to make choices. Enough said. Good will to all.
