Anne, I believe the idea of using tyre crumb as feedstock has been gone for quite some time now. The latest plan, as far as I am aware, is to use plastic. Non-recyclable plastic, because to destroy recyclable plastic would cause considerable upset and objections. Of course the plastic will have to be shredded first before entering the gasification chamber.
One benefit of this is that it doesn't matter if the plastic is contaminated i.e. with food scraps etc. because that will be gasified as well.
I believe the decision to use plastic rather than tyre crumb was because of the recent outcry about the damage to the environment, the oceans and the living things within the oceans by plastic waste, and also because it possibly produces more energy and hydrogen than tyres. Of course tyres would have to be shredded and metal removed before entering the gasification chamber, which may be more costly than just shredding plastic.
Anyway, I agree with you that this project (and hence investment) is not risk free, and of course we will not know for sure until, as you say, probably about the end of this year. But I actually have faith in the engineers, scientists and management who have been involved with this for so long, which is why I'm heavily invested here!
