One of the big developments this year in DMS at CES was that Samsung had four different exhibits incorporating Driver Monitoring. The company noted that the Driver Monitoring software was provided by EyeSight (Seeing Machines has previously demonstrated a concept with Samsung but no longer sells generic software licenses as part of its IP strategy) with Samsung providing an integration with front facing cameras and software to provide a better user experience of the safety features – the system can recognise that the driver has seen an external hazard.

In house solutions by large companies are seen as risky by OEMs
Unsurprisingly, as suppliers have realised the importance and value of DMS, we noticed a few major companies (eg Tier 1 or Tier 2 semiconductor companies) that seem to be developing in- house solutions, whilst also working with partners. One of the most important snippets we learnt at CES is that OEMs are unlikely to want an in house DMS solution from a major company. There are several reasons for this. OEMs know these companies are behind the curve on core DMS technology development. OEMs fear that DMS technology is non-core to these businesses leading to an ongoing risk these companies drop their efforts at some point. OEMs want the flexibility to source multiple Tier 1 suppliers (for technical and commercial reasons) as DMS penetration and volumes increase but with the benefit of consistent underlying software algorithms and performance. Dedicated DMS suppliers who live and die by their DMS offering, with stable and consistent DMS technology roadmaps will be the preferred software providers.

NVidia was demonstrating a proprietary DMS solution as part of a Level 2+ self-driving system. It operates at 60fps and 1MP which is the same specifications that Seeing Machines currently uses. As aforementioned, we believe it is unlikely that an OEM will use the NVidia DMS software over a dedicated supplier as this is far from their core business

I got it on the free trial, estimate earnings 35m for 2019. Our tech is the only offering good enough for high speed on motorway or semi autonomous driving. OEMS are not keen on using large corporations offering e.g. Samsung as they may discontinue it. Our stand was way better than any of the others and Bosch were demonstrating their own with a massive camera sticking out the dash opposed to ours last year? We no longer let anyone else use our software in their offering, i.p. Protection I guess. We are ahead, but must continue to invest to stay there, whatever that means? Fundraising again?
