These very recent ones were good. I tried to buy yesterday and the price went up everytime I left it to 259p. Think it was confused with a Bloomberg trail on severstal. 10p dividend -ex date coming along interim. Good divi paying history of length. Brilliant order book -may benefit if commodity price relax reduces their steel cost -but if recession is prolonged may struggle from mid next year but they will survive and will rise again.Got it at 245 today. PB

Bought 600 at just under 27p. They even pay a small dividend. interesting their contract in nuclear industry at Sellafield. There are a number of possible suitors even Balfour Beatty. Looks a safe little hold in current economic climate with its Southern water contracts. Might it sometime climb above itsold 2007 top of about 65p ? Certainly have the expertise to go a long way -looking at the history surprised they have not progressed better over the years-hence my cautious level of investment ! PB

Ex div today . The Canadians take 50% of the tiny amount back in witholding tax -my broker dutifully sends each month the certificate with the divi tax shown! Not woth mkuch more than the stamp. O Neil at Goldmans not very positive about the bull case for gold at present based on $ rally. However the $ rally is uncertain -whether their exports can continue to thrive on a rising $ that might choke it off. Oil currently buoyed by storms -but how will it fare in the shoulder period as the storms subside. YAU a good company with increasing production but will the gold price fall quite a bit as Neill suggests ?

Results not very good today . Sold my 500 shares bought @117.50 for 130. (Admittedly divi up 4.8%)

This company prints the Economist. Was printing Harry Potter series. Has units in Europe and in Florida. Also has new Post Office contract for regular income. Has history as good reliable high dividend payer. Ex div November 7th. SP hasw come down quite a bit recent months .. I recently bought back in at 158p

Read that Chinese VAT will impact adversely on gold mining companies. GFM also lost their tax free period recently

This is cheaper to buy than Santandar . It comes on International Retail Service at about 7 euros as opposede to 12. But it has a great yield good fundamentals . Quarterly divi 22 cents ex date TOMORROW

Beggars belief why so cheap on a 13.5% yield. Small equity exposure and May statement said smal impairment compensated for elsewhere in the business. recently was trading in 160-180p range. Further SP downside dueto market sentiment alwayspossible but income streams from closed life policies largely in cash and fixed interest. Bought 500 recently

Open cast coal mining mainly in Scotland 3rd biggest UK coal miner. Recent SP fall from 190p where CEO recently bought hugeamount sadly for him at 190p. Question ypou might whether it could go lower they had reduced earnings on interim but only because of delay in planning permission but full production now. CEO anticipatesfull year profit will be fullyachieved -they paid full interim divi and on present share price it is well above the 6% previously. I bought back in today at 166p Only 360 but that was my previous holding.

Results showed some small deterioration in earnings -but Latin American earnings that comprise 30% offset substantially fallout from the overhang in Spanish property market. A few weeks ago share down to about 850 but has since recovered. Assuming oil price provides no new shocks and continues to retreat to supply and demand fundamentals suggests not much to worry about. In fact a well managed bank with their eyes open. Long term looks a strong hold

Purely on its potential one should not worry. I added to my small holding today in the belief these are better bought when retreating. Big question is might one profit by notadding in too much hurry with oil retreating and banks the ctitadels of paper money looking a little more confident. Note Directors sold out in 2006 and not seeming to buy yet. Not much broker comment except Investor Chronicle optimistic at 739p in spring. Tiny dividends -hope my broker finds them ! This is a defensive stock and in present circumstances some may conclude that they would rather be in the water with a 30% divi cut which is what in effect is available after the consolidation than be a bank which on paper is yielding 12% but with a bullet ridden shorted share price. Indeed holding UU for a 4-4.5% yield may be an option although some would prefer 6%-7% with safe capital in a building society. This company has alot of stock out on loan -given the fact we are in a bear market shorting this stock after the consolidation would drive it down to a yield comparable with where it has been for some years. You either buy the argument or you don't -the risk is there and indeed a possible buying opportunity ahead. I left this stock as I said prematurely with a view to re-entry after the consolidation and I hope I am not disappointed.

I was not aware of the AL divi at the time of posting also it was based on todays close price. Note you are using tourist exchange rate . Financial rate close to 125/100 Divide by 5 multiply by 4 . Sorry minimal post -sleepy late dinner

Why if it is a 3 for 1 deal are AL trading at 335p with Banco San trading at £9. Someone with 300 AL will be paying £100 over the top ?

leapo. Fair comment. My point is whereas existing holders of the stock may well benefit from the pending payouts this is less important. What matters is the position of new purchasers of this stock who may buy after the ex date without these payouts.This will determine the path of the share price and also the potential for shorting on the possible share level bearing in mind the divi cut ! My interest is solely as a potential future purchaser of the stock -I am not at present holding thestock but I have held it previously and exited the stock a little prematurely on the last occasion assessing the prospect.I personally do not short stocks.

SHOCK WARNING Well known for high dividends. Watch out -on 25th all change. Future divi reduced by 30%. There is a return of capital and divis of 170p per share largely taken away by a share consolidation. What they give with one hand they take with the other. Brokers target 545p.
