Completed 'Bed & ISA' today with IG, I'm a year behind really as it should be done at the end of the tax year but as my ISAs are full and with the way the shares are at the moment (low), I've filled this year's wrapper at the beginning of the tax year.
Was £40 per line of share as it has to be done over the phone which counts as a telephone transaction which costs more. As you are selling and rebuying the shares instantly you do have to repay the SDRT of 0.5% of the share value. To fill my wrapper and transfer two lines of shares (Rolls Royce & Tullow) it was around £380 to complete.
The reason you can't do it yourself is you run the risk of being out of the market for 3 working days between the funds clearing your share trading account and being able to be transferred to an ISA share dealing account even with the same provider. When you organise a 'Bed & ISA" they do it instantly and cover the clearance of funds for you as long as it's the same provider.
It went relatively well with IG. What I didn't realise is it doesn't happen when you make the call, it will be queued up with the transfer team and they usually complete it before the end of the day if you request it first thing in the morning. But that's no big deal, when it happens it's still basically instant.
Now there's another wedge of shares the tax man can't get his grubby mitts on

Sorry all but I've been in a queue for 90mins with IG and still no answer!
I want to bed and ISA three shares, you can only do this over the phone as far as I'm aware.
Do you get charged 3 x £40 fees for phone deals or £40 flat rate or some different rate for this?

I have a relatively small holding here, and wish I didn't. Don't listen to anyone on these forums. If it goes down - people always say "great time to top up", why? Because they too have shares here and it's in their best interest. If it goes up, people say "hold, long over due or if this breaks through XXX amount, the resistance is broken and should sore to XXX". It's boring - its the same on all share forums for all shares. No one knows, don't listen to anyone - including myself .

Sell Limits - Things to note with sell Limits: my provider IG and many others, don't allow limit orders exceeding 20% of the current value up or down to protect sloppy fingers. You can do it over the phone though. Also I got burnt with G4S rocketing and passing my sell offer by quite some distance :(
I personally avoid them now. There are other cons to them also if you read up on them..

Sageman - yep I understand there are many variables, but I was just sharing that try as I did - I didn't find one that shot up.

I have money here, and not far off doubling my RoI. I want this to fly as much as anyone but I have found it difficult to find shares that have risen substantially just because they entered FTSE 250. I've searched a number of stocks and found on the timeline where they have entered FTSE 250 and some rise a bit, most I found actually went down and some stayed about the same.. I just took random companies but I searched probably about 10..
I also found this article which was interesting which shows a study of prior and after trading prices of stocks that have entered the FTSE 250..
It's the second paragraph..
So whilst I hope the hype is true, I can't see evidence for it..
I still believe this is a strong buy. Pleased for people to discuss this.. I know everyone is saying the fund managers will have to buy it as it's in the FTSE 250, but I can't see the correlation on the charts with other shares.
