Ed has confirmed that Great Britain will need gas for the foreseeable future. The country has the option to produce it domestically in the North Sea, enabling taxation of both gas companies and industry workers while also building national expertise. However, both Labour and the Tories have chosen to weaken/kill the oil and gas sector through high taxation, opting instead for imported gas. As a result, Great Britain will lose tax revenue from North Sea companies as they gradually leave, along with jobs in the sector. Additionally, Labour and the Tories have accepted higher gas prices due to transportation costs and increased CO₂ emissions, as imported gas has a larger carbon footprint.
The debate over whether gas is cheaper or better than electricity is a "rabbit hole" discussion that few fully understands. In my view, the government should just simply remove the EPL (Energy Profits Levy) since it makes business sense and will generate taxincome. If they don’t, is till my hope that E will be among the few winners/survivors due to our tax losses
