Well IMO the Government are the problem. The whole furlough scheme was mismanaged & many people had 2 years freebie doss in the garden getting £2.5k per month of taxpayers money for doing nowt. That was Sunak's idea! He created the nambypamby nappy changing economic environment we now find ourselves in. People don't want to work nowadays. People going off sick on full pay for months & years & noone prepared to say a dicky bird. Sick notes dished out to everyone because those doctor's & GP's can't be ****d to see any patients. I wonder what Thatcher would have made of it all? LOL

I'm not sure if anyone on here remembers the late Bob Crow who used to be the RMT leader. He was the best ever TU leader along with his mentee & predecessor Jimmy Knapp. Those guys knew how to cut a deal. Everyone associated them with constant strikes. The reality was there were hardly any days lost to strikes under their stewardship. They portrayed a very militant image but they knew a deal when they saw one & took it! This is why (& has been alluded to on here a few times) the train drivers & rail workers now enjoy such good working conditions.

Moonman, i'm actually pro trade unions. Workers need to have collective bargaining power. A good union will know when to stop flogging a dead horse. I'm not sure what the current offer is on the table but last i saw it looked to be getting to a level where the unions should take the dosh. The amount workers will lose in strike days money lost has to be factored in by a well run union. Constant striking will get them nowhere!!

Those union hardship fund payments don't last forever & they actually cause more grief among the workers as the 'more needy' get higher payments than others!

The strikes won't last long. This isn't a miner's type dispute & people have mortgages to pay & families to feed. Half the strikers will be back to work after a couple of days!

Don't forget there'll be many LTHs who bought in here pre covid for £4-5. They'd be rightly aggrieved if the BOD entertained any nonsense bids!

Point i was making Genghis is they could make a low offer like what's happening on WG. It's opportunist stuff but these guys are looking to get the company's at giveaway prices. Wood probably won't start taking anything serious until it's over £3. I hold WG shares & no way am i selling at today's price. They can keep their 237 or whatever it is now. Cosmen tried to take over NEX many years back now. I forget what the offer was then but about 3 times today's price i think.

I think the debt will probably put off p/e vultures. Maybe a low ball attempt like WG. That one is highly speculative. I remember buying some WG shares @248 which was a bargain at the time!

& lesson in impatience for those looking for 20%. I held 30k of shares in CPI. bought right near the low. Just over 20p a share. I sold them for 24p. 20% profit banked. 100% profit lost!

LG, there are many new contributors on this bb. The vast majority will not be here when this share hits £2 & beyond. They will be gone @160-170 levels. Nothing wrong with taking a profit. Fair enough. But the impatience for that quick gain is becoming obvious. It will come in time but patience is required. People begin to get bored when they see other stocks racing away & end up bailing for tiny profits. I have sore memories of doing the same myself on here in 2020. Not making that mistake again. This share has the potential to be 3-4 times this level. Personally i'm happy for this to stay lower for a while. I've got £20k ready for the ISA if we stay down here long enough. I've got to commend yourself & a few others who've stayed the course here. I know some are a few bob underwater but i seriously believe this will reward those who stay the course. A good, solid business. Does what it says on the tin. No BS. Huge potential to be a cash machine if management play it right. Ignore the noise. Ignore the moans. Remember why you invested here in the first place. GL

The problem with ISAs is if you make a loss in an ISA you can't offset the loss for tax purposes!

Depends what a hell of a lot is? 20k shares gives £1k in divi which is the max tax free from April. Goes down to £500 the following year so would only need 10k shares to incur tax.

A bit unfair really on those who bought in at high levels. You pay tax on the dividend return despite potentially sitting on a large paper loss!

Well, i'm really not a divi investor. More interested in capital growth but obviously is a nice surprise to get the payment. I wouldn't actually mind if this stayed a bit low until April so i can utilise next years allowance. I'm wondering whether those low allowances will stay for long. It's a huge cut & will affect BTL sellers big as well as shares. Not really a Tory type policy!

Poker, i was going to post about this earlier. The tax stuff. Interesting to see how this will affect PI investing behaviour as everyone who invests any significant dosh will incur CGT or income tax on divis. Personally i'm holding quite a lot of these in a non ISA acct so was wondering if anyone knows a way to minimise the tax on the divi's over the allowance . I'm a HT taxpayer so the divi tax will be 32%. Bit of a bummer!

Well a good week & the stress over now all is out. I'm feeling very relaxed about this one now & really i think this is one to sit back; relax and enjoy the ride north. Everyone has their own timescales & target price levels but at least now i believe we are in nice safe territory & fertile for a rerate or even a possible t/o target. I think the debt level will put off p/e bidders in the short term but who knows? JW, i mentioned it before on this bb about MW. I'm always concerned wen i see them opening shorts. They seem to get it right more often than not. I often think a lot of the shorters are very opportunist. Anyway watch the contributions on this bb gradually reduce over the coming weeks. The trolls will go & the traders will take their 20%. This will be back to 3-4 posts a day in couple of months. Very civilised board this. Always has been! GLA

I'm holding all until at least £2.50. Probably slice a few then but i've got a lot in an ISA so leaving them safe now there's a divi income too. salisbury. you need to have the faith you had when you bought these. If you can hold for multi years this share could really reap a great return & that £2.70 will be peanuts. This opportunity to buy this quality stock at these stupid prices is only due to market madness nothing more!

Haha LG been busy today. Looked at results. Happy Days saw it jump as expected so i'm happy now results are done & the panic over. I've always had confidence in this one but i've got some serious dosh in this now so was a tad concerned. Not now though. A great set of results IMO & i see no reason why this shouldn't continue rising. Actually might add more tomorrow if i can still get sub 140.

Wonder what this will gap up at?
