RE: Will Covid 19 Vaccines Save Lives?14 Nov 2020 18:05
It’s an interesting question of the likely impact a proven vaccine will have on future testing. Given a vaccine will initially be rolled out to the most vulnerable in society, one can expect the death rate to drop reasonably quickly, which will support the governments endeavour to return society back to a degree of normality, by relaxing its lockdown measures. You don’t need to try and vaccinate the whole population, as it’s already proven that for many in the younger age categories the fatality rate is very low, and frankly from their current behaviour many feel invincible already !
Reduced controls will in itself breed confidence together with the fact that clinicians have a much better understanding of C-19 , with hospital treatments now far more effective. The UK doesn’t routinely test for common flu which the NHS say causes on average circa 10000 deaths in England & Wales each year, so why should the NHS fund a continuing COVID test program if/when, the mortality rate drops to that seen as a more ‘acceptable’ level. UK citizens aren’t accustomed to paying for Health treatments, so take away free testing and it will likely only be used when it’s a necessity and by those refusing the vaccine. Vaccines being given freely by the NHS will likely drive a high take up rate as the months progress, provided no longer term effects are seen. It’s highly unlikely the world will eradicate this virus but over time a degree of resultant mortality will become part of lives risk.
Anyway AVCT can still do very well here, but I believed it’s a diminishing window of opportunity.
