The most likely area of difficulty, if an award has been made, is calculating a "lost profits" figure that all can agree, especially with the uncertainty of oil and the volatility of PoO - just look at today's change.

Personally, I don't see any problem if the PoO settles around where we are now - there's still loads of profit to be made from SL and the US shale frackers may be a bit less keen to put even more money at risk, as the bankruptcies start to ease somewhat.

It's a bit of a fine line between the PoO being too low to justify committing to SL and it being too high, attracting the frackers back in again.

Bloody 'ell superritch, haven't we already done this one to death several times over?

If I were HBR, I'd hang on to Zama, because if the Mexican Government has a part in obstructing its development, there could be another juicy ECT claim submitted. Phil Kirk and Linda Cook might pop down to Salisbury to pick Sam's brain (assuming he still has one) about how it goes.
In the mean time, HBR haven't had to bear the exploration costs, so can afford to put it aside while matters become clearer and get on with SL while the going's good!

Here's something new to distract the climate guessers:
We're all fed up after yet another missed deadline and speculating about the OM award, etc.

Does anyone know what the timescale was for the Cairn arbitration award and whether that one dragged-on and overran in a similar way?
That might give us a clue about what we should expect, now that July has well-and-truly passed.

Absolutely Fudd, but the first thing is that you've got to want to try, which in the case of China is not a given and they're big enough to matter.

Assuming you are right (and that's quite an assumption), that's a reason for 8 billion of us (and growing) to squander the World's limited resources and continue to behave selfishly is it?

I think this should be taken as a wake up for us all to behave better, whatever the solar cycles do.

No matter what the absolute truth, we're all going to have to change our ways, if not for ourselves, then for those who follow.

The media stuff maybe excessive and exaggerated, but without it, no one will take much notice and then it really WILL be too late.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the entire World population can be fitted on the Isle of Wight, so if we could organise that, that would leave a lot of free space for the rest of us to enjoy.
There's quite a bit of space in my back garden for any stragglers.
So that's the population problem sorted.

Let's just eat, drink and be merry - as Mike says, it's all an illusion.
If we all have a great time, we can find another island to plonk any resulting population increase.
If Mike's wrong and the sea levels rise, that should clear quite a few weaker brethren off those islands, and the rest of us will be so pi55ed that we won't notice anything going wrong.

Maybe you should do some research, me old mucker! It has absolutely nothing to do with "posts on here", but more to do with the reality of the World and its economics.

Instead of relying on "posts on here", why not just stop to think about what would happen if oil/gas production was suddenly and dramatically reduced, or even stopped, in order to reduce emissions.
You need some knowledge and a bit of imagination, but humans have painted themselves into a very uncomfortable corner, which is quite scary to contemplate.
And all of us here are betting on something we know perfectly well is going to take us nearer to the precipice.

There are so many pieces to this jigsaw, big and small, that need to be assembled for SL to go ahead, but recently I haven't seen one that says SL is doomed - rather the opposite, apart from drivel posted here and on ADVFN, no doubt by de-rampers, or those who know nothing.

Very unlikely and Boris has been very careful not to exclude oil/gas from future activities.
Coal is the current fossil fuel "villain".

As has been said countless times, we all know what fossil fuels are doing and what we have to do, but in the short to medium term, renewables/nuclear just cannot meet the energy demand.
We also know what will happen if more and more of the 8 billion (and rising) humans go on the rampage if affordable energy demands aren't met.
A terrible dilemma I agree, but that's where we are, like it or not.

Oil/gas are going to be needed for some time and Boris knows this and won't get in the way.

I reckon a lot's been going on behind the scenes, and continues right now.

COP26 could be a bit of an issue, but not enough to stop things if they're more-or-less decided/organised.

Once COP26 is out of the way, an important milestone for this will be the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War, and if Boris hasn't been sacked by then, he'll want to capitalise out of it.

Ages ago, while still on the ii BB, I speculated about the possibility of RKH, with all its FI region licences, being taken out.

I was ridiculed by the know-alls.

So here we are again, speculating about exactly the same thing, only I don't hear the know-alls ridiculing it this time!

We all know what fossil fuels are doing to the planet, but just think of the consequences of turning it off.

Of course we need air to breath and food to eat, but without energy, and lots of it and cheap, and about 8 billion of us on the rampage, just imagine what that would be like.
I'm afraid oil & gas are here for some time and HBR have staked their reputation and their future on it.
