Morning all. T the one market you can rely on is the FTSE when it comes to spearheading falls. Its so cheap now the Americans don't even bother buying shares anymore they just take the whole company! Apparently 5 time as many takeovers this last 8 months as the last 5 years put together. I can't see how that is good for our economy. I don't think its just Covid, though the uncertainty surrounding Afghanistan . Governments never seem to plan for these events, they just wait for the disaster to unfold, blame everyone else and go on holiday. Always remember Alistair Darling saying the first he knew about the financial crash was reading about it in a newspaper while he was on holiday. Providing we don't see a civil war in Afghanistan unsettling the whole region again I think there should be a strong bounce back is shares come the Autumn. So many companies have been hitting records in their new financial year or seeing decent recovery and we are not seeing the in their share prices

Interesting headline on OCDO online sales slipping but the sp rises. Just shows the disconnect between reality and share prices. Also economy thriving and job vacancies at record levels. I suppose when we have too many lorry drivers they can all fly planes?

Morning all. The market is the slowest I can remember for a long time even for August. Good results met with indifference, only meeting market expectations gets hammered. N I think now is actually a very good time to invest, not so good for the trader. Consequently I have only emergency cash left. Hope things will perk up a bit next month

Excruciating! Most of my stock trading 50%-75% below average volume. Hardly surprising I suppose.

Morning Brigade. T general malaise across the markets unsurprisingly given the convergence of uninspiring news. As regards Afghanistan, having taken this route as defined by Trump I imagine why the leaders in the west are surprised by the speed of capitulation. In fact I very much doubt they are in truth, thats just to deflect criticism for those who sacrificed the most. Retreat never has much dignity. What ever follows I think this was the only outcome. I think 3 weeks is far better than dragging it out for several months. I don't see what negotiations would have benefitted by prolonging this sorry episode. How long could the west afford 150 billion a year on one region, while fighting a pandemic that isn't going to surrender easily either.

Its quite a responsibility N. Really tough decisions to make sometimes and we are so under prepared for it. Have been through it twice with my mum and mother in law. Dads just seem to conk out! Best wishes to you. Hope you can get some support if you need it . Don't be afraid to ask, its better now than it used to be.
I heard some of that too about Boo. I also heard it being discussed by two journalist on radio 5 with Adrian thingy who was the original one show presenter and football commentator. Fashion is the second biggest polluter to farming apparently. Boo has got way to volatile and unpredictable for me and I keep calling it wrong which doesn't help either. So putting my energy and money into things that are generally working better for me like AGFX funnily enough. I think you have to accept that the commercial world is tough and some of these guys that run these companies are absolutely ruthless. They walk a very fine line as we have seen with Tesco, Barclays, Northern Rock, British Home Stores, etc . Often the wrong guys get pinged thats how ruthless bosses are offering up sacrificial lambs to save their own skins if they are clever enough and they usually are.
I could come well un stuck with AGFX but I doubt they have done anything illegal, just blindsided ordinary investors while we make decisions by trying to guess what has been happening and basically a lot of basic detective work! Have a good weekend all

T. Avon is one of those that got away from me. Meant to buy at around 14/15. 25% is a bit of a shocker as I thought they were very well diversified as a business. It just shows however good a stock is, absolutely nothing is risk free, and diversification and balance are key to survival never mind success! Gl with that purchase. I'm out of cash there have been so many opportunities recently. Yet to prove they were good opportunities lol

Morning Brigade. Hope we all avoided BOTB. This has been a favourite on Stockopedia and ramped up beyond all rationality. I hate companies like this and tax avoiding gambling companies. They always used to hang out at airports selling raffle tickets for super cars and more recently glamping mobiles. Went entirely online this year. Personally I would be glad to see the back of this kind of industry. About the only thing I agreed on with Thatcher, that lotteries would happen over her dead body. She wasn't wrong on that one.
The other top faller Black Bison is a different story. This is a very creditable phone advertising business. I was keen to buy in, but just didn't have the dosh available fortunately. The sp seemed to be running away recently and then as so often the case these days, boom. Another placing and down she goes. Now below the sp when I first started looking. The oversubscribed placing is a generous discount and no doubt the sp will sink to that level in due course where I will be waiting. Thats then thing I have learned this year that without exception the sp always retraces at or below placing level, even if it rises a little initially. There always seems to be a rebalancing of shares on the book for one thing.This may the one to prove me wrong because it looks a good deal which is possible why directors have taken 22% stake. May put in a small buy order at 1.35p maybe, but no hurry I suspect.

Continuing your theme T, I see Stevie Nicks cancelled her tours due to rising US Covid. Lots of heartaches there! A lot of the friends of my partners son have now gone down with covid back in the UK.
Some of my stock particularly the Swiss company HEIQ who specialise in antibacterials are recovering well . Generally everything else meandering a bit with eyes focused firmly on longs on American bonds I'm mainly focused on the best bar in town!. gl all

Morning all. Another day another takeover. Stock spirits this time A share I did own. They switched from vodka production to hand sanitiser at the start of the pandemic. Probably the same product just changed the labels an less tax to pay obviously and open cheques from Mat Coc kup. Its funny about AGFX. Most investors are so relieved that the plunge has been all about internal struggles they couldn't care less how they've been stitched up. I must admit part from buying a little early. I hope it will prove a good investment.Even when you read the situation its still difficult to get the timing right. On the other hand I don't how if they will get away with this one. I expect they let Institutions in on their little secrets as it seems they all took part in the piggy trough.

Thanks T. Just been experiencing the most extraordinary shenanigans on AGFX (currency trader)on AIM. The sp dropped nearly 40 % after co CEO was pronounced retiring due to ill health. Then he returned in May and promptly resigned again. He has just sold his entire holding of 11 million shares. They held an AGM behind closed doors and obviously hatched a plan to buy them 80p another 20% below market price. Only friends and family need apply. Sure they withheld price sensitive information and it certainly was not handled in the best interest of shareholders. Just back in profit in my ISA, but I know a lo of shareholders sold out while the sp tanked. Another terrible example of outright greed and arrogant disrespect of shareholders.
Great school record school results. Does this prove that there is no need for schools as home learning is obviously better? I'll put that question to Gavin.

Hi N. Yes I was amused by a headline in this morning 'has covid finally ended?'Don't know what planet they are on, but I think its been clear for a while that we are opening up and no going back. Relying on our common sense to take precautions, which seems to have evaded large parts of the population judging by the number of people not bothering to shop wearing masks.
I feel sorry for people serving the public and bus drivers in particular. We are where we are, I don't see there was much alternative. Just take care and take the best precautions you can for your families.

Morning all. Seems to be sunny all round and a nice cool breeze. I feel incredibly lucky having moaned about our poor summer weatherise, considerably better than having everything around you burning to the ground or flooded out. The only slight consolation is that in many cases things do grow back vigorously. Very strange market still. Dkl reported staggering sales growth and an increase in prices over 69% over the year. To offset that the cashew processing plant opening is delayed by 1 month. Shares up 1.05%!

Went to our first live local gig in over two years. Pretty simple affair but brilliant. So its official climate change. Got that Trump?
The other great climate chang denier was an old chancellor of ours Lawdy Lawson. "I have lots of very wealthy friends and influential people who tell me climate change is nonsense.' Expect Trump was one of them. Its somewhat ironic in the year of the least amount of any kind of travel other than by bicycle or horse, that we are experiencing the fruits of our extravagance with extreme weather. Not surprised the bank of England held rates at record lows. Should be relatively good for shares when all the fund managers return from their vacations if allowed back.

Interesting you should mention that T. There was a very good interview with the Co of a rather 'forgotten' chain store Beales yesterday. I taught they were long gone. I think they used to have a store in Clapham Junction, long gone. It appears they are very much alive and recognize that the days of Debenham size stores are over but they are reorganising themselves into smaller store, rather like supermarkets are trying to do. This another area where Aldi and Lidl score well apart from not have an array of stupid unfathomable offers like the main 4 love, you can walk round a Lidl store in a couple of minutes. People just don't have time to get lost in the women underwear department like dear old father Ted!

Morning all. The rag trade is never far from headlines, mostly bad. So Shien falling foul of employments disclosures and John Lewis accused of poor record on minimum wage. Perhaps the only winners are the hapless cheap clothes buyers who can afford to buy and chuck away, cheaper than cleaning them!

T 5 shares sounds like the average investment for Robin Hood. You can buy a fraction of a share I believe if you want to play it really safe! The one who's just gone to Australia, last Saturday in fact, has been trying to get there for two years. His dad's Australian, so technically not my son. Apparently there were only about 6 people on the flight, which is odd as there are thought to be 60,000 Ausies trying to get home. It has been a nightmare. Flight cancelled in July. He only got a text from the airline the night before saying he had to fill in a transit form 72 hours before the flight. We worked out he could do to because the journey only counts as leaving from Singapore. Got the form in 7 minutes before deadline!. Because there was so much uncertainty as to whether he could actually go, he couldn't really get rid of lot of his stuff, so thats going to be our job for who knows how long. Managed to offload the car the day before he left which was a relief. We just couriered off the belongings he wanted to take (electrical equipment)because obviously we couldn't risk sending it if he wasn't going to get there himself. Should be ok cos his bro lives in Melbourne. Anyone wanting to come back will be lucky to get a one way ticket for under 5k at the moment. Absolute nightmare.
The property tycoon son went to Goodwood races fore the weekend and naturally stopped over. Supposed to be going to his partner's villa in Malaga this month so I don't suppose the PCR tests will be a problem. Last year he won new employee of the year and went to a company meet with his American bosses in the Bahamas in-between lock down, he took his brother along for the ride which was cute. How the other half live. I have to say he has totally astonished me. Obviously doesn't get it from me!

All this traffic light CoVID stuff reminds me of being stuck at a 6 lane junction in Rouen I think it was. Trying to workout out which way the light was going to go from amber, and everyone hooting with their foot flat to the floor on the clutch and accelerator. How I got across I'll never know. Closed my eyes and went for it! Our lad in quarantine in Australia has had three PCR test and only on his fith day out of 15 in quarantine.

There was an article on proactive investor I read last night that said about Shien being the reason for fund managers pulling out of Boo. That and the possibility that growth maybe slowing don't give me a lot of confidence . Boo is also very volatile it dropped back to about £1.80 this time last year. Longer term no doubt it can sort these problems out, possibly withdraw from US altogether. Who is more of a problem America or China? lol

yes T. Its a regular conundrum at the moment. At least some of my fallers have recovered, but took the opportunity to ditch Boo, hopefully learned my final lesson here. Shien look like they could cause a big problem for BOO and ASC, and is the reason apparently for many funds pulling out of Boo. Shien can use all the slave labour they like in China without the Guardian and Sky news crawling all over them making in most cases completely false allegations with impunity. Following the profit warnings from Joules and ASC, I find it hard to believe Boo will be an exception come September. plus the CEO has yet to appear before USA court. It may well not impact the business much directly but it will further pressure the sp. Need to free up some cash to take advantage of any further blips which there undoubtedly will be. GL
