Have heard that theory many times and it stops retail PI's shares getting loaned out. If only Institutions would do the same or sit on their holdings. Somebody has to be feeding any demand and they do it for an income stream. It's just unfortunate they don't understand that market makers don't care about the 90% or over that are permanently invested and only seem interested in churning the same 5% to 10% over and over again.

@38p yesterday somebody seemed to appear to try and put some downward pressure on the share price. Same again today I think.

I'm sure we don't even get to scratch the surface of what is going on behind the scenes and its all hidden behind disclosure thresholds for short and long positions. Just as an example, how come the FCA have to be notified of all short positions over 0.1% yet all that ever gets published are those above 0.5%. So several can sit at 0.49% without it ever being known. Same with accumulating in that you could have several sat at 2.99% and never disclosing. Why don't they just equalise things and have total transparency so for instance. All positions disclosed over 0.5% - long or short, then we would get a true balance rather than it all being smoke and mirrors.

Oligarchs Billions frozen, super yachts seized, and most sanctioned and seeking either haven. E.g. Abramovich / Chelsea.

Countries foreign reserves in other countries frozen or seized.

Nordstream gas pipeline blown up

Countless Russian orchestrated cyber attacks...

Probably an endless list once you get started.

No doubt some like the defence companies, big banks and hedge funds will have profited greatly throughout, and will reposition but it would be good to see the back of it all and get back to some form of new normal with prices adjusting back downwards with it.

It'll be interesting how much the UK saves out of the £3 Billion per annum that it only recently committed to Kiev for "as long as it takes" I take it that being on top of all the munitions and providing shelter and wellbeing to displaced Ukranian refugees.

That sort of money would go a long way in filling the potholes on our roads, building new prisons that are much needed, a new hospital or two for more beds and to reduce NHS waiting lists, properly fund Mental Health Services and the Police, Fire and Ambulance services. In essence to put the Great back into Great Britain.

We hadn't even started to pay for Covid when the "special operation" hit and doubly compounding into a cost of living crisis like no other, with high inflation, high interest rates and people having to move onto like 35 and 40 year mortgage deals, higher energy prices, higher food prices and shrinkflation, and pay freezes on top. Not many families have escaped any of that.

It would be nice to see the back of that for good and you would also hope that EU leaders will be thinking along similar lines In Geneva next week.

Trump I believe gets all of the above.

the difference between this and all other peace talks to date is that trump understands negotiations and has made billions out of it and he comes to the table with huge leverage both over russia and ukraine. russia with sanctions and ukraine with weaponry and defensive systems.

interesting that meeting last week in the oval office bringing everybody together "all hands to the pump" to end the war in ukraine.

now not wishing to be funny but the fxpo share price courtesy of a fall on a frivilous court action (that will take months and years to even get to court, if that) is looking very, very cheap compared to where it was at the start of the week, and without trump with a peace plan and now proactively pursuing it.

like him or loathe him trump is the best chance of peace that the ukraine conflict has ever had.

far, far better to have shuttle**** diplomacy back and forth between parties until the minds meet than locking delegations plus abramovich or mr erdogan in a room for days at a time. then when the minds meet, then have the phone calls and the face to face meets. that's how things appear to be timetabled and frame-worked here according to what was in the mail last night.

geneva next week should be plan unveiled and the eu "buy in". (probably backed with a sanction threat which to date he has held off from) then to kiev... then i suspect to moscow...

Yes definitely some propaganda type comments returning last night off a few on what is actually an FXPO company bulletin board and imvho the first realistic prospect of peace in several years, and with Trump probably more than anyone, somebody that both Putin and Zelenski have good rapport with.

All eyes on Geneva next week and between the Mail and GB news article, and 3 years on and without any end in sight there's aspects in there for either side.

Both getting an end to the war and elements of a win win. Ukraine in Nato has always been a big no, no for Putin, but Zelenski gets an end to the conflict, power supplies knocked out for winters and can rebuild with security guarantees, a demilitarised zone, reparations through energy and a path to EU membership but loses territory that in truth they have no sight of winning back.

For Putin Peace also no further loss of life and a gradual lifting of sanctions and essentially the Eastern lands in limbo where he has never been happy with Ukranian occupation (the Donbas)

The EU and the world gets an end to a conflict that has to be fair cost 3 years of rising inflation, flagging growth and energy security issues and Billions upon billions spent on massive defence contributions and weaponry for Ukraine.

From that White House news conference Donald J Trump thinks he can get it home, and so do I.

My money, my decision, your money your decision.

Alex it's a plan, a good starting point and in essence some will be on a menu of options and subject to ratification or agreement. Like I said I had seen mention of the US involved in the demilitarised zone for supply of Rare minerals.

Nobody gets everything they wish for and it will fall down to the leaders of the two countries to decide what they will accept at this particular moment in time and what price they are prepared to pay for peace, as well as not forgetting the other stakeholders mentioned. This is now 3 years on so perspectives will have changed.

Don't forget also to put across it the potential and threat of much tougher further sanctions on Russia and also don't forget America provides a lot of military aid to Ukraine. Both levers.

Its clear there has been a lot of talks behind the scenes given Trumps comments and I also believe that might be why Zelenski made a guest appearance at Davos.

It also provides in essence a framework or timetable of steps working towards what everyone wants - a ceasefire.

Trump thinks he can get a deal home and that's good enough for me.

This below is the interesting quote in the article which hints at a swift timeframe given Keith Kellog is already scheduled to attend that Geneva conference next week to unveil / share the plans and in all probability to get the EU, the UK and others face to face, to "buy into" the plan. Then...

"But if confirmed, it would see Zelensky and Vladimir Putin sharing a phone call within days before the warring pair meet either in late February or early March. An official ceasefire declaration would then be made on April 20."

Just a couple of comments off me.

Firstly. The loss of life or injury in any conflict or war is always a tragedy but it becomes an absolute tragedy for anyone to lose their life between now and any ceasefire or peace deal.

Secondly. Cheekily, if we do have the capability to crush stones and for instance make hardcore for building foundations, for concrete, and for road and rail building then we might wish to consider applying for a licence extension as there will be copious demand. How ironic would that be if the Govt then approached FXPO to help out on that very front.

It has to be Ashley's algo's playing with the share price today as virtually all of the market is green except THG and with debt to sort out you would have thought it would be one that would react favourably to a positive reduction in interest rates.

Game of frustration and patience really but somebody has to get tempted for either Nutrition or Beauty imvho
