Hi Crystal, Scamp has pretty much outlined the situation regarding OT. There is/was also a pressure on management to clear the office of mail everyday prior to the temporary changes to the USO, this led to a culture of bargaining from posties as to how much they could get for the work needed to be done on OT, and depending on how desperate the manager was ridiculously inflated pay rates for some , especially if the manager was 'green' to the duty or if it was a Saturday. Posties being paid 4 hours pay for 45 minutes work is the biggest p@sstake witnessed. However now there is no emphasis on clearing, just delivering the premium products, walks are left undelivered and some of the OT is reducing. A permanent change of the USO could be significant.

The notice of redundancies today will hopefully sharpen the mind of the CWU to do what's best for all concerned and find a compromise agreement, and that may mean accepting concessions will have to be made. I honestly think RM can become a fairer employer for all the employees as well being a sound investment for the shareholders, indeed there are a lot of posties that take the p@ss at the moment and that is to the detriment of their colleagues and the shareholder.

That would my prediction too, given the amount of parcels we are/have been seeing lately. Letters are low atm, but summer lapsing has began and a stricter budgeting of overtime appears to have been implemented. Two duties in my section that were previously regularly ot duties have been collapsed and absorbed into current duties. Posties finishing early have been sent back out on delivery. Moreover the Local and European elections will have given the revenue an injection. GL all.

Morning Arsenal, I have experienced lots of managers in my 11 years, I must say the current bunch (they tend to rotate every few weeks/months) are probably the most 'on the ball', the best one is a young guy who was an ex-posty, but some of the others have been really good with public services experience (army, prison service etc.). The issue really is the method used to manage situations. It has operated with a firefighting approach, dealing with problems with short term solutions, with no real planning or long term considerations, I do see that changing. I work in a large office so scope for change and efficiency savings are probably greater than smaller offices. Hope that helps, GL

Much anticipation of next weeks announcements and the effect they will have on the SP. Cost cutting continues in my DO with summer lapsing having been in operation for the last month, a revision of duties to take rounds more efficient and decrease the van usage ( single van users been partnered up with other single van users freeing up a van). Incredibly busy at the moment owing to the Political literature, and the workload being condensed into shorter working weeks due to the Bank holidays, loads of parcels (bank holidays falling around payday maybe?). Also worth noting D2Ds on my duty have increased significantly in the last 3 weeks, so whether there has been a renewed sales push? The progressive dividend policy Rico Back wrote of in the HY report makes me confident there wont be a div cut, however could he get away with keeping the div at around 6% of the current SP (which it was for the last div) which in real terms would be a drop in the actual price per share dividend, if that makes sense.Good Luck all (apart from the shorters)

Nuri you have mentioned the FTSE100 in reference to the RMG SP a few times in recent days, is the FTSE100 positon that important given the RMG is a FTSE250 share? Surely a rise in the 250 is more relevant touchstone? Genuine question I am not that au fait with share dealing, cheers

Morning all, positive start to the day. In our weekly meetings yesterday there was an emphasis on the growth of the parcels business, with the continued growth in food kits and a mention of majestic/naked wines innovative fit through the door wine bottle, with the closure of multiple retail sites of majestic/naked, focus is clearly being placed on the delivery side of the business to the benefit of RMG it seems. Also a more efficient system of logging parcels that are not delivered and can be tracked. Not any huge revelations in this post I appreciate, but hopefully it indicates that the business is following the right path. GLA

It is just specific to our DO (I would imagine)where parcels were sorted/handled twice (broken down to vague postcode and then to specific postcode),before being sorted by the dutyholder on the frame. Unnecessarily inefficient and despite previous attempts/suggestions there was no appetite to change things, as that was the way it had always been done, that attitude seems to be changing.

Enjoying reading the thread, (thanks to all contributors) especially styD, really interesting insight.Is it safe to assume that there may be short sharp flurries of growth, like we seen on Friday, triggered by short sellers stop positions being reached? From my perspective a new more efficient sorting strategy for parcels was implemented today in my DO which appeared to be effective (early days though). I think this is just specific to my DO which is a badly performing one, but does however demonstrate a commitment to reorganise and cost cut.

Charlie, I'm a postie but don't feel that qualified to comment as much as other posters here who have been investing for a long time, but I do follow the thread on a regular basis. There are some quite big changes that will have an impact on the business costs if they are successful, undoubtedly there will be a hostile reaction from the trade union members but IMO there really is not much stomach for a fight and resistance will peter out quite quickly. To comment that Brexit is not having an impact on the share price strikes me as being quite strange, as surely the current uncertainty makes investment in UK shares very risky. When that situation is resolved then foreign money will return to UK shares (especially solid ones with good divs).
And surely the div announcement and/or approach to the ex-div date will see a rise in the SP won't it?

The sp has not responded in line with this article. I recall Liberum laying into RMG after the profits warning in November, do they hold a short position?

Greetings all, being lurking but gonna give my two pennorth. I'm a long served postie and IMO there is plenty of scope for costcutting. Troughseeker you suggestions are unworkable. However the key to cuts revolve around the PDA actuals, there has been a period of time since this went 'live' that that data has now been accumulated and can now be acted on. There is a huge amount of 'ghost' overtime still being worked (where you are paid for doing OT within your working hours) this is inevitably going to be eradicated. Moreover those dutyholders that were ghosting have obviously got scope in their working day to do more work without being paid extra. Any attempt to slow down and take your time will be flagged up as a performance issue, as the data now exists about how fast the dutyholder works through the PDA actuals. Further reduction of collection duty jobs or augmentation into adding special product delivery known as LATS alongside will improve productivity or eliminate cost accordingly. Centralisation of smaller Delivery Offices to larger hubs is a work in progress, but I have heard suggestions of multiple duties working from the same frame with staggered start times. This remains to be seen, but the Delivery Office is a resource that is only used for a small part of the day and isn't getting maximum value. Clocking in machine are also inevitable and will further eliminate ghosting, indeed some managers have started paying OT only on information provided from the PDA rather than the loose arrangement that exists at the moment, although to be fair this is really only a major issue at xmas when OT is not questioned.
I hope this gives an insight into some of the strategies that could be implemented, I have only recently invested in RM shares and although I only have a rudimentary understanding of share trading, I can't getting my noggin around the price at the moment and aside from the profit warning drop, feel it is Brexit uncertainty related.
