I suspect that if Bransom still held his 6% and was pushing for change this week he would have found a lot more support?

What we (the SP) needs is our glorious leader to step up as all good captains should in times of crisis. A clear message, I've got this, I'll steer us through and the business is still forecasting strong results for 2022 etc. That might just help bolster flagging shareholder confidence? Unfortunately we seem to be managed by the invisible man! Failing that a clear out at the top might provide a boost for the shares? This looks like amazing value at 150 but sentiment, or a significant lack of, is holding us back. I topped up at 153 so here's hoping!

My father worked in Russia for years and his view was that we shouldn't be afraid of conflict with Russia as half of their equipment probably wont work. Looks like he was about right!
Aside from the first 24 hours Ukraine's military have fought a good campaign. Let's face it Ukrainian motivation to fight for their homes trumps the average Russian Joe who thought it would all be over in 48 hours so he could hit the Vodka, loot some souvenirs and head home. That said Russia has massive resources and they put a very low value on life so they will keep plugging away till the attrition starts to work in their favour.
If they can consolidate their positions in the east I suspect they will come back to Kyiv. They are claiming that regime change is no longer one of their demands. Yeh right! Zelensky has humiliated Putin which means his card is marked if Putin gets the chance. The rest of us behave in a manner constrained by our values and what others may think. Putin has no such constraints.

Who knows? This time next week we could be talking takeover? Very few certainties in this game. Talk on some of the other bank boards about people claiming they will pile in to Barclays at 150. I thought the news about house prices might have given the retail side a boost today. Let's face it the loan book should be moving in the right direction and with interest rates on the up the margins should be better. HSBC were up earlier today at least and their P/E is 11. Ours is 4.

Badge, I'd like to think you are right. The trouble is Putin's not accepting that he's miscalculated. He is going all in on this and will keep doubling down until he get's a result that will embolden him. You make a rational argument but if Putin was still rational he would't have invaded Ukraine in the first place. The west wants to believe his position at home is under pressure. This is not the case for now. He will continue to brutally put down any opposition to what he is doing. Dictators have confounded the west on several occasions. They cut away the wreckage, survive, rebuild and history repeats itself. Putin looks to be obsessed with his vision for Europe. If he's breathing he's dangerous I'm afraid. There may well be some time-outs but Putin's war could go on for years yet?

TR, I think you are right. The Cr*p has floated to the top at Barclays and they need to be turfed out as they haven't got the decency to stand down. If this board is anything to go by then the latest fiasco is a final straw for shareholders. This should be a solid FTSE 100 defensive stock. Not very exciting but a steady return. Instead it's more like something on AIM. It's long since time for change at Barclays.

KK, yep. NATO needs to make sure their nuclear capability is ramped up to a level were Russia can be in no doubt that playing the N card will result in the total destruction of Russia. NATO also need to play on Russian paranoia and deploy real and phoney battle groups in eastern Europe as well as extensive missile defence systems. Support for Ukraine needs strengthening and the EU need to move more quickly on moving away from Russian Oil and gas as they are presently funding Putin's ambition. Putin only understands strength. All the talk in the world is just weakness in his eyes. You are right. He will rig any referendums, murder any opposition and lie like a cheap watch to his own people to get his way. He is unlikely to stop at Ukraine so the battle there is, as Zelensky sells it, quite possibly the battle for Europe? Obama did the world a huge disservice when he drew his red lines and then did nothing when they were crossed. Putin is now convinced the west is weak and he can take what he wants with threats, aggression and lies. It's sad but the lessons of WW1/2 is that only complete and total defeat puts a longer term stop to aggression. Any agreement at this stage is only good for a couple of years. Putin is no longer rational. He will learn from Ukraine, re-group, re-arm and turn his eyes on his next target.

Yep. If CSV was new to Barc I'd say give him a chance but given the circumstances I think he should "step down". If he doesn't it's a clear signal to me at least that he's not prepared to take accountability and therefore not the man to sort Barclays out.

Yesterdays optimism around the peace talks seems to have evaporated in the realisation that there's no sincerity in Russian words. The Ukrainians, NATO and the west are learning the hard lesson that if they credit Russia with any truth, decency, honour or humanity they will underestimate the scale of the atrocities Putin is prepared to commit to realise his vision of Europe. I guess we need to keep our heads down, flowing oil, banking cash and hoping that somebody in Russia doesn't want to see a paranoid dictator destroy their economy, send their youth to die in Ukraine and isolate Russia for the next 30 years?

GHF, I agree. Every time the business starts to throw off the wiff of the incompetence that has haunted the banking sector since 2008 something happens to undermine investor confidence again. When things go well it's bumper bonus for the senior managers and crumbs for the owners and when things go wrong the shareholders are expected to take 100% of the pain. Takeover?.... I can only hope! Getting to be a stock for day traders and shorter's.

It will be interesting to see what the outcome of the independent investigation throws up but we will probably have to wait a while for that? Disappointing that they are not taking advantage of this to push ahead with the buyback. Barclays have pushed back on activist investors looking for systemic change. Perhaps now they will understand why it's required? Heads need to roll and the bonus culture needs to be addressed IMHO. And after that kicking I will own up to buying more Barc on today's drubbing. I must be as mad as they are?

Well I've just pressed the buy button on a miserable 40k shares. Most of my cash tied up at the moment and just bought a load of UK bank stock based in some overselling due to their recent bout of incompetence. More Buffoon than Buffet but I guess that's my MO.

I think the title of this thread says it all. How can a stock with a P/E of 4 be sinking fast unless there is a total lack of confidence in the management of the business? And now we have major shareholders publicly throwing in the towel. Look at the 2021 results. The SP should look fair value at £4 and we are down in the 150p's. Incompetence? Absolutely. The key question is what are they going to do about it? Ignore the independent review and carry on regardless? The SP drop is overdone if the cost of the latest incompetence is £450M. I hope they have given us a worst case scenario but how can we have any confidence in what they are saying...... or doing.
